Dora talks about going to the library a lot.

Between the Lions and It's a Big, Big World are similar to Reading Rainbow from my limited knowledge. I'm mostly focused on shows for younger kids.

Stanley on Disney indirectly promotes reading - he jumps into a book for adventures.

As far as retro shows, The Electric Company promotes better literacy. It is currently available on DVD. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to enjoy it.

I'd say Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and Between the Lions.

I love Between the Lions. But I'd also want to nominate Arthur, also from PBS :)
