check out Anais Nin, 1903-1977, one of the first female writers of erotica, there are numerous references on the web. Delta of venus is probably her best known work, its available on penguin modern classics.

Well Hello!
Anais nin is an excellent choice, as is "justine" by de Sade and "Venus in Furs". We have some well informed people here! The missing writer is Henry Miller, the two "tropic" novels and the "Sexus" trilogy. I can't recommend "Fanny Hill" very much, it has some good stories but the overall tone is a big wet blanket.
If I can go a bit off the wall, you could try Boccaccios "Decameron" - some of the stories are very evocative. Apart from that, "The Monk" by Geoffrey lewis is worth a look. Have fun!
Cheers Steve.

Well, I think it would go without saying that you should try DeSade...
And then there's his "counterpart"--the person who gave the name to "masochism"--Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch, and his novel "Venus in Furs". Venus in Furs is really erotica- without- much- mention- of- actual- sex, though! (The Velvet Underground wrote an absolutely wonderful song about it, too.)
There's also Georges Bataille, who wrote a lot on "death and sensuality". His most well known writing is "Story of the Eye". It's a really, really gruesome book--think, probably DeSade, but updated for the early 20th century.
Also, there's the Psychopathia Sexualis by Kraft-Ebing, I believe. Get an old copy that's an actual medical manual! It isn't really erotica at all, but Kraft-Ebing is the psychologist who came up with the word "masochism" in reference to Sacher-Masoch, and his book is just case histories of various sexual fetishes. Apparently it's been used as erotica for perverts (:P), but it's also kind of funny. There are some misconceptions and sickening stuff in there, though!
That's really all I know about... but then I stick mainly to the older stuff, that usually has some other point-for-writing rather than to just be erotic. Story of O is actually probably the "newest" actual erotica novel that I've heard positive things about.
There is a sequel to Story of O (Return to the Chateau or something like that), but most people say it's not as good, and was either written by another person, or written after the female author had a severe change in lifestyle.
OH! There is one other thing you might be interested in--not really BDSM, but Stanley Kubrick's last film was based on a book called "Dream Story" by Arthur Schnitzler.... which contains cheating and stuff like that. From the synopsises I've read, it sounds a bit like Story of O, with the masked ball. I don't think I could ever watch Tom Cruise after that scientology stint, but I find it fun to read books and watch their movie adaptations.

You may like:
'Autobiography of a Flea'
'The Way of a Man with a Maid'
'The Memoirs of a Voluptuary'
'The Pearl'
These are all Victorian erotica, but they feature a surprisingly wide range of 'specialty interests', including flagellation and humiliation. You can buy them as PDFs on eBay if you can't find them as paperbacks.
