On Feb 1 I sprained my ankle badly. Didn't go to a doc about it (I could walk, so my dance prof said it was ok) until a month later when it seemed to get even worse (more painful, swelling wasn't going away). Diagnosis? Grade 2-3 sprain of the lateral ankle ligaments and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th metatarsals.
I was put in an aircast pneumatic boot (aka knee-high moon boot) for 6 weeks, from March to the very end of April. X-rays: no fractures. The swelling went down and so did the pain. Went to a chiro and physio for the ankle after, it felt nearly normal.
I am a vocational stream ballet dancer and am physically fit, but now after every class, even after walking long distances, my ankle really aches. The pain is enough to wake me sometimes, or force me to sit at times. Its a deep, dull, ache all around the ankle joint. It is also very easy to sprain and swells readily now... Any ideas on why this is still a problem so many months later? THX.
