Many of you are saying that God is spirit and cannot be male or female, though one thing is being forgotten. What about those who have had visions of God? When He appears before them, He is male. These people, for the most part, are saints. They wouldn't lie about seeing God.
Yes, God is a spirit and therefore has no use of a gender, but along with what I mentioned above, every time God is mentioned in the Bible, He, Him or His is used.
But on the other hand, maybe God doesn't have a gender, and uses a physical body when appearing before people, choosing it to be male. No one will ever know for sure.

God could be anything. Why not like an amoeba? Or a frog, that can switch its gender? Gender is really only for the purpose of reproduction, so ask yourself if you believe God produced children, and did God have to mate to do so?
The whole concept of God stems from a culture of sun worshippers; and since the sun has no gender, thats how I see it.
From what they can tell, cultures 35,000 years ago worshipped the "Great Mother" that being earth, which has always been percieved as female, and Women ruled the 'church'.

All major religions delegate power to men! Women are only bit players in the spiritual world, their purpose is usually to obey, provide pleasure, procreate, and raise children. It would be impossible for a Deity to be female in this world or the next world under Christian, Jewish, or Islamic religion, very sad but true. The Greeks had Gaea, but she is out of fashion, now it's a rather cantankerous breaded old man in the sky that rules the roust. I personally believe that if their were a female god this world would be a much better place.

God can appear in many guises. The task is seeing God when you are not looking. God is often with us. Don't forget that you cannot look directly at God, only through indirect aspects. The burning bush with Moses is a good example.

read Paulo Coelho's "By The River Piedra I Sat Down And Wept"
fairly short novel, very well-composed...explores this question in great depth.
Yes, I believe God has quite a bit of femininity.

In an intro to Philosophy class I took years ago, my professor kept referring to God, using the pronoun "she." Most of the students looked at each other like, "Wha???" A lot of students were pissed. It's kind of funny. So now I say it like that sometimes. It gets a lot of people mad.

Jesus always referred to God as His Father. Not his mother....not his unisex parent. His Father. The Bible is very clear about this.
The Bible says it. I believe it. End of story.

I'm sick n tired of hearing and "God" being addressed as a "HIM"!!!!!!
gimme a break! if god , if at all it existed was formless and ubiquitituous, how could it be addressed as a "Him"?
n that's so bloody Chauvinistic!
if you really looked into history, in many cultures like in the pagan religion its the woman who holds prominence...
its really the dark side of the man...to oppress women..
when a man walked on water he was called a saint...when a woman walked on water she was called a witch and burnt on stakes.

Simply put if you have read the bible God is a "he."
He did not make woman in his image, but God made man in his own image.
Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let us(<) make man in our (<) image, after our (<)likeness....
This verse refers to God in his purl form, hebrew Elohim.
But I am not going to get into the subject of Elohim in this peticular answer.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
It does not say in this verse that God created female in his image just that he created them.
(Paragraph from my book)
Abraham sees God in the carnate form.
Genesis 18:1 And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth 3 and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.
Abraham now bows himself to the ground in front of these three men that he assumes are three presences of God. Even though we see in later verses that one of these man is assumed to be God, Abraham at first has no clue which one of these carnate man is infact God.
You have to wonder why? How is it possible that between a group of three man that God could not be recongized. These three men are welcome by Abraham and are feed by abraham.
Genesis 18:4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, 5 while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.” 6 And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.” 7 And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly. 8 Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.
Simple enough to assume God is male, he is carnate, and he has a source to his voice that is not a spirit.
No Ghosts can get eat, no spirits can get.
The people of todays' society need to wake up from there mythical, super naturel world, and see who the real God is.
But like I said that is another subject, for another question.
If you would like to know the truth that I am leaving out, just e-mail me.
Peace.
