Arts & Humanities - 2 September 2006

All very well to spend billions on gaining knowledge of our place in the Universe. (On the western spiral arm of our "local" galaxy, apparantly)
And I'm fascinated by it all, being something of a scientific bod.
But. Should we not be looking first on our own doorstep, to hopefully resolve conflicts etc. ?
I'm not a great activist in this area of thought, yet it seems to me that we should look after planet Earth first.
Where else do we go to live ?
Sounds a bit hippy profound, I guess, and I still play guitar & keyboard, and although they won't work on our moon, apparantly guns do.

Just a thought - replies, humourous or upright appreciated.

The poor use of grammar and dreadful spelling displayed by users of Yahoo Answers drives me to distraction. Should Yahoo Answers provide us with a correction tool so we can go through the answers and make corrections? Then the truly intelligent and witty would shine through like a beacon to us all. I for one would sleep much more soundly knowing that a little part of Yahoo Answers was forever England. Don't you agree?

I don't know why we still go to movies and support the spoiled bratty movie stars that get away with crimes that we (the average person) would get locked away for. Or why they think that they are so important to make idle statements and never follow through with it. Take for instance Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones saying that they will move to another country if George W Bush were to be elected as Pres. Did they go? No! I think that we should have said, "You made a threat trying to change the way people would vote. Now he is in office. See Ya. You will be missed." I won't get into whether Bush was the right or wrong choice. Or OJ Simpson with a gun to his head after his ex wife was found murdered. What was he saying? I killed her or I don't want to live anmore. Come On! My point is, those in the acting businesss should not feel that they are more powerful than any American citizen. What are your feelings?

I know that at the various games the athletes were crowned with variant leaves (laurel, olive, parsely, etc.), but were poets crowned, too, at these games, perhaps for the best ode or some other form of poetry? My Armageddon Has Begun

I am hurting deep
And no one will see.
The ripping and tearing has started,
My Armageddon has begun.
To shreds they reduce everything that was my life.
And now all I have is this empty void.
But they will not stop
Until they fill every atom that I am
With this unbearable uncertainty and pain.
Slowly the redness of my eyes will haunt even my innocent dreams.
My every waking moment will become the personification of pain.
The existence that I am to become
Will be punishment
No better than that dealt by the fair Devil.
The people will stare and gawk
And pity - contained - will make them feel better.
The children will show what the parents really feel,
They are happy now
But soon they will become me.

But today has begun,
Today my Armageddon has begun.
