I just picked up the original Trainspotting book by Irvine Welsh. and it is kind of hard to understand. I can read it but get confused some times. Is the screenplay book by John Hodge easier to read. And is it the exact same story as the one by Irvine?

I'm doing research for an artistic project on the topic of loneliness. Not necessarily the "my girlfriend left me and I can't stand it" kind of loneliness, but more of an overall, deep, existential kind of loneliness.
