Because it doesn't to me.
My friend got 2 weeks of detention because the top button of his shirt was undone and his tie was too loose.
For the record, his tie wasn't even that loose and *no one* buttons their shirt up all the way.
I can't believe he got 2 weeks just for that. It's not like the teacher had repeatedly warned him about it or anything. She just mentioned it today. We were in (history) class and she came to "inspect" it. My friend (Drake) was kind of sitting there, not really listening to what the teacher was droning on about, when that lady (who also happens to be our roll call teacher) came in and said,
"Drake ! Do your parents pay $20,000 a year for you to daydream ? No ! And button that shirt up ! And tighten that tie ! I WON'T have you disrespecting the school uniform. In fact, two weeks of detention - In my office."
Isn't that a little *harsh* ?
Shouldn't he have just gotten a warning or something ?
