OK, a few friends and I were discussing where the expression “Rat Race” comes from. One of us (I won’t say who) claims it is basically an extension of the rats in a maze, running around, aimlessly, without purpose.

Another indicates that it is to indicate that humans are greedy like the rat, always trying to eat more----symbolizing our quest for more and more money.

Finally, the third person thinks it is symbolic of our animalistic desires to destroy those we love.

However, I am willing to hear other viewpoints about this expression.

So—Rat Race means

a) symbolic of rats running through a maze without thought----trying to get their end reward, no matter what cost

b) Humans have a greed comparable to rats, where money is the key element

c) It symbolizes the animalistic nature of humans

d) all of the above

e) none of the above----please offer your own opinion

There is a lot of cash riding on the answer!

I'm probably using the phrase wrong but...

When someone says something like 'there's an elephant in the room now' and they're speaking figuratively... what does it mean?

I hope the question isn't too vague

both Stalin and Mao Tse Tung killed so many more? My best bet is it was because of who he killed, what is yours?
Hitler 10 million
Stalin 20-40 million
Mao Tse Tung 42-63 million according to an investigation headed by Ted Kennedy..
Also Russia (Stalin) took over half of Finland, a little more then half of Poland, all of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and part of Romania. While Hitler, up to that point had only got the smaller portion of Poland.

for ATHEISTS & AGNOSTICS ONLY, please.

Had you not embraced Atheism / Agnosticism, why would your religion have been by virtue of birth? (What was your family's or their family's religion)

I have asked some queries about Atheism - and have received a large number of responses. Most of the responses were logical and helped me understand what the western concept of Atheism is about.

I hold that it is rare to find a Buddhist-Atheist and almost imporssible to find a Hindu-Atheist. I would surmise that >80% atheists are bred out of Christianity - but this is only a guess. I seek to learn more. So please respond - and if you know other Atheists / Agnostics, please also ask them to respond.

I will keep these question open for 72 hours and then try to add up the numbers and see where we arrive at. I expect a good participation from you because I find Atheists have no hang-ups and less fear of speaking out their minds.

Thanks in advance !!

I've been having some problem w/ the electrical system on my 1990 ford ranger. Specifically the battery not charging. So I changed the alternater right away but problem has persisted.

Now I'm having trouble get the problem an diagnosed and Im wondering were I should go from here. It's an old truck so I don't want to put a lot of money into it. I don't want to hand it into a mechanic and not have clue of whats going on either, my finances are very limited.

Any advice on what should do, or how I can diagnose the problem myself.

hey, hey, my, my
rock and roll will never die
hang your hair down in your eye
you'll make a million dollars

well i was in this band goin' nowhere fast
we sent out demos but everybody passed
so one day we finally took the plunge
moved out to seattle to play some grunge
washington state that is
space needle
eddie vedder
mudhoney

now to fit in fast we wear flannel shirts
we turn our amps up until it hurts
we've got bad attitudes and what's more
when we play we stare straight down at the floor
wowee
pretty scary
how pensive
how totally alternative

now to fit in on the seattle scene
you've gotta do somethin' they ain't never seen
so thinkin' up a gimmick one day
we decided to be the only band that wouldn't play a note
under any circumstances
silence
music's original alternative
root's grunge

well we spread the word through the underground
that we were the hottest new thing in town
the record guy came out to see us one day
