http://www.atheists.org/comingout/othercloset.html
Degree 1:
Completely closeted. Not even your spouse knows. You tell everyone you're a believer, and you may even attend church services to convince those around you. You're living a lie, terrified that someone may learn the truth.

If you fit into this category something must change in the near term. Your spouse, who loves and trusts you for who you are, needs and has the right to know.

Degree 2:
Mostly secret. Your spouse knows, but most of your family and friends don't. You avoid the subject at all costs at work, and if it does come up, you will hide your atheism.

Degree 3:
Somewhat open. Some family members and most friends know, but you are hesitant to bring it up in conversation. It's still a secret at work, unless you are very close friends with a coworker or two who know. You have friends who are atheists, and may belong to an organization like American Atheists for moral support and connectivity. You may write a letter to a congressperson, but not to the local paper, because you don't really want your atheism published. You may avoid the subject when it comes up, but if pressed you will not call yourself a believer (though you may soften the blow by using the term "agnostic" or "freethinker", even if you're an atheist by definition).

Degree 4:
Mostly open. Almost anyone who knows you knows you don't practice religion. Coworkers, perhaps including your boss, all your friends and your entire family is aware. You don't shout it from rooftops, but you make no effort to hide your atheism when it comes up in conversation, and may occasionally raise the conversation yourself.

Degree 5:
Completely open. Every time the subject comes up, you state your disbelief with pride and frankness. Anyone who doesn't like you because of your atheism is a bigot and is not your concern. You've written letters to the editors of newspapers on the topic, and you may have an atheist bumper sticker on your car.

She's severly mentally unstable... she suffers from anxiety, depression, and slight schizophrenia. She's lost her job due to her issues.

I knew that she was like this when I married her, and I never, not for one second, have regretted my choice. She is the love of my life. We haven't had sex in over 2 years, and I still fall in love with her all over again, everyday.

I'm up with her at 3am when she's convinced demons are out to get her, I'm cleaning up her throw-up when I get home from work around midnight when she's tried to drink away her problems. I've always been faithful and supportive.

She refuses counseling and medication and I respect her wishes.

But she wants a divorce. She even managed to get a lawyer. She's insistent that she's ruining my life and she's NOT. How can I change her mind? I need her.

I know that after the sepoy rebellion in the late 1850s, the Honourable East India Company lost its monopoly over the opium trade, and I know the broad outline of the two opium wars story. But for those in the know, I am interested in the following questions.

1. Who actually produced the opium (indigenous laborers who sold it to the East India company, and later private firms? Or Gone With the Wind style planters?)

2. What social classes were involved in opium production, distribution, and consumption? What kind of money was on the line? Did this change after the mid 1850s?

3. What were the risks involved in the opium trade? Was it ever violent? If so, for whom?

4. What were major centers of opium production and distribution in China? Was it always smoked?

5. What are some good books you can recommend on this topic? Some to avoid?

Thank you in advance!

Question: I had a conversation w/ my relatives and they were saying that all pedophiles are white men because that’s what they show on the news. One if four black American girls are molested or sexually abused by the age of 18. The average black girl does not have white men in her circle to do such and I said this and I told them that most of the pedophiles in our community are black men the only reason they don’t get caught is that the adults will blame the child and/or cover for the man who is abusing the girl. If the black community actually reported most of the sexual abuse that goes on in our communities do you think that would tip the racial scales as far as pedophiles in the news?

Too much grain maybe? Not enough pasture? The next stable he went to was just great for him and he's never been sick again. It seems so strange to me because the first stable was the more expensive and it was beautiful and the owner was snotty lol. The next one was your typical down home old rickety barn and he was super happy there. Any ideas?

I have a Canon Powershot A570 IS. Today I took it out to take some pictures of the creek, where I noticed there was something wrong with my Tv (shutter) mode. Anytime I take a picture in this mode the result is just a bright white picture. I thought it was just overexposure since it was bright out, but when I brought it into a shaded/dark area it had the same result. Other modes seemed to work just fine.

Is this simply a result of it being too bright out, so it's capturing too much light even in a 1 sec. time lapse, or is there a setting I need to adjust for it to work? It was working fine just yesterday an and this is the first time I've had this problem

my husband and I just got married a few months ago. We bought a new house and recently both got part time jobs so we would feel more financially secure plus be able to save more money when we are ready for a family. Since my husband and I don't see much of each other, do you think this could lead to divorce? I'm afraid he'll meet someone at his job(s) and forget about me and eventually stop loving me. Is this a valid concern or am I letting the media garbage get to me?

She's a Aussie/bordercollie mix - great puppy, no complaints. She is extremely active but I love it - keeps me in check. However, she goes crazy with people and other dogs. When I take her for walks, she wants to say hi to EVERYONE she sees which is a pain b/c i have to pull her from trying to run to them - after which she whimpers as she stares back :(. When people come over to visit she gets extremely excited and wants to run to them. If I keep her behind the doggie door she just barks and wants to get out. When we do let her greet people she goes CRAZY! She crawls to them, jumps on them, licks their hand, rolls on her side/back to get her belly rubbed, the whole 9. Its great that she's is good w/people but I dont want her to just be friendly to just anyone plus it can get annoying to the people. Is she just being a puppy? will she grow out of it?
PS - she is going to puppy class and is very smart...its just this issue...thanks

I don't want to question to be taken out of context so please read these details. I just got done looking at a poll that says over half of Americans say that faith & religion is an important factor when picking a presidential candidate. That is mind boggling because I never would have thought that. After looking at answers at Yahoo for the past couple of weeks though I would be willing to say those who would answers the question "it is not important" might also say that Huckabee is "bible beater" and is going to change America into a theocracy if elected president. Is that bias as well? I know people with faith, especially Christians (easy target), get the rap of not voting for someone because they don't believe a certain way, but isn't just as bad to not vote for someone because they do believe something? I would like honest well thought out answers if possible because I have been really thinking hard about the role of religion in politics, and viceversa.

I have a 1 carat 3-stone round diamond ring. I was looking/trying on different types of bands to go with my engagement ring but none of them seem to look right or the gold didn't match. I was looking at eternity bands on-line but haven't had the chance to try them on with my engangement ring.

This is my ring:

This is the band I really liked and that matched the best:
