Too much grain maybe? Not enough pasture? The next stable he went to was just great for him and he's never been sick again. It seems so strange to me because the first stable was the more expensive and it was beautiful and the owner was snotty lol. The next one was your typical down home old rickety barn and he was super happy there. Any ideas?

Me too Sandy. We just need to feed them closer to what they would naturally eat. Which sure isn't anything too rich.

It sounds more like mold than anything else. A little barn lime would have fixed that right up, making sure to clean up the lime after a few days and keeping the horses out until it was cleaned out. Mold has a way of growing in even the tidiest and newest spots, If the inside was painted whjile it was damp that would have provided a perfect environment for the mold to grow.

Could have been too much grain. Could have been something in the grain. Maybe a little mold or something. Or too rich a feed.
My horse was once at a barn and was always not feeling great. He was colic-y and achy and in bad temperament. Then we moved to a cheaper place that took great care of my boy. He got a great balanced diet (the owner was a scientist that did his PhD in horse nutrition). He got a lot of nice grass hay, no alfalfa, and good supplements of grain. Suddenly, he became the horse we started out with-sweet and happy.
My gut feeling about your case was maybe too rich a diet. I'm happy he's someplace where he's happy and feeling good now.
