and if they beat the giants that would mean that they beat over half of the teams in the NFL that made the playoff in the regular season. would that make their accomplishments in 2007 even more impressive?

G, you must have this question confused for a question that has something to do with how the patriots are going to do in the playoffs.

Kinda blows the occasional "They had a soft schedule" argument you see every once and a while....
Will be interesting to see IF they do go undefeated what the difference between the '72 Dolphins .368(?) schedule and theirs turns out to be......

I will say one thing to everyone out there. As a patriots fan, I really don't care if they even make it to the Superbowl, because superbowls come and go and many teams have won them and have had repeat trips. But if the pats win game one and two of the playoffs, they have beat the number of undefeated games played by the 72 dolphins, and that is something that will be talked about for 30 years to come. Honestly, do you really think anyone is going to give a **** about the superbowl of 2007 years from now if the pats go even 18-0 who cares about a superbowl.

No, winning the superbowl is really all that matters. If they go undefeated in the regular season and flop in the playoffs, all 17 weeks leading up to it means nothing.
Edit: Honestly, I think Mike T brought up a point that the pats winning 2 playoff games would make the season impressive. As much as it would, I still think the 72 Dolphins would still brag how great they are and all. I would love to see the Pats win everything just to shut them up.

The Steelers fans whine that the Pats have a soft division but yet they (Steelers) Lost to the Pats,Jets and only beat Miami 3-0. As you stated the Pats have beaten 4 of 5 AFC playoff teams and Beat the 12-1 Cowboys where the Steelers have only beaten 3 winning teams and only 2 of those are currently playoff teams and they lost to 3 sub .500 teams.

Yeah, G clearly has problems with reading comprehension.
You've raised some very interesting issues. If the Patriots end up winning out and raising the trophy with a 19-0 record, they will clearly be the greatest single season team of the Super Bowl era (perhaps to be eclipsed by next years' version of the Patriots, when they load up further by adding rookie sensation McFadden).
The undefeated 1972 Dolphins played nowhere near as tough a schedule as this years' Patriots did. The Patriot's success in general during the salary cap era is staggering.

I've notice the same thing and I do think that would be impressive. If they beat the Giants, the only team they wouldn't have beaten this season( top 5 team) who are going to the playoffs are the Packers.

If (yes, if, from a Pats fan) they win out and take the Super Bowl then they will have played a very difficult schedule that will include most of the top 10 teams from this season, including the #2 and #3 (depending on who you ask) teams on the road.

Dantails that is an interesting point, but what is harder having 4 teams with decent records or 2 teams like the jets and dophins along side with 2 teams like dallas and indy. The reality is its harder to beat Dallas and Indy overall regardless of what the averages of your oppositions records are.
In other words this
Vikings Bills Giants Titans
Is not harder to go undefeated against than
Indy Dallas Miami New York no matter who you ask.

I will admit that yes. I will also admit that when they played the Colts, the Colts were at a disadvantage without Marvin Harrison, and the Boys were without Tank Johnson and Terry Glenn. This is not to make excuses as those two teams have been able to win against everyone they have played. What it is done do also I think is send a warning to the Patriots. All it take for their season to come undone is a bad injury at the wrong time.

Yes, and while Belichick usually cares about the Super Bowl first, I think you will see him sticking it to the rest of the NFL and going for the undefeated record because of all the camera hype...i.e. Brady and Moss to the end of the regular season, at least for the first half of the rest of the games...

I did the math.. and assuming that they win out in the end.. the current win % of teams that have faced the Patriots is...
.427
Surely more impressive than the Dolphins' one, and that is with two Dolphins and Jets games each probably weighing it down... but not quite the toughest schedual in the league.
