If you read in the KJV or any version that has verse 37 you can see that it is meant to go with verses 36 and 38. Also verse 37 it is in the NIV, it is in the footnotes.
36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
