Your insurance company may be of help. They will know if a doctor has been complained about by other patients with the same insurance as you. The local medical association and medical board will also know if there have been problems with a specific doctor. State licensing boards can provide disciplinary data. But in the end, only you can determine if a doctor is good for YOU.

There are web sites that review doctors and even give their med school GPA...
Just because a doctor got the license, doesn't mean they did it well....A doctor could have been a "D" student....and still passed.

There are indeed web sites you can search.
Also, keep in mind that a doc can be as book smart if he wants- but if he's not willing to work with you and answer questions, he's not someone you really want to trust with your health. So you'll want recommendations, if you can get them.
Good luck!

As your friends, call the local hospital and ask advice, look in the telephone book then call and ask questions?
