Alright, here is the question. I'll tell you how far I've gotten trying to figure it out.

"A rifle with a weight of 40 N fires a 5.0 g bullet with a speed of 230 m/s.
(a) Find the recoil speed of the rifle.
(b) If a 600 N man holds the rifle firmly against his shoulder, find the recoil speed of the man and rifle."

The formula I've been attempting to use for recoil velocity of the rifle is m1v1(i) + m2v2(i) = m1v1(f) + m2v2(f)

Wouldn't the entire left side be equal to zero, as both the initial velocity of the rifle and the bullet are zero?

On the right side, I've plugged in m1 = 40N, v1 = ?, m2 = .005 kg (mass of bullet conv. to kg), and v2 = 230 m/s. Solving for v1(f) where the left side has a value of 0, I get the answer -.02875 m/s (recoil velocity of the rifle). This is coming back wrong. What am I missing? Am I even using the right formula? Thanks!

My 16 y/o son, who is a fulltime student and I support 100% financially (lives with me) and materially, works parttime (less than 15 hours a week) at minimum wage since July of this year. I have been claiming him on my returns since birth so I don't have to worry about anyone else claiming him...and I am a single mother so I file the EIC as well. My questions are, how would I go about claiming him this year and what do I do with his W-2 (his YTD income/wage)? Do I need to fill out another form? Filling out my returns have been very simple as I do not owe/own anything. I usually file taxes online for free.

He's specifically peeing on my clothes and bed sheets. I caught him pulling a shirt out of my laundry basket and getting on it- getting ready to pee. The litter box is cleaned daily- he still uses it. I see him go in and pee and/or defecate, but he'll then pee on an article of clothing five minutes later.

This started on Thursday night (today is Saturday, Oct 20)- I've caught him on six seperate occasions.

We have a fairly routine life- I can't think of anything that could be stressing him. I did do a lot of traveling last week, but I've traveled before and never had this issue when I came back before.

Should I take him to the vet? Or is this a behavioral retaliation issue?

I have been with my wife now for six years (three years married, three years bf/gf) and it seems it just keeps getting worse with her hatred of everybody. I know that her being a CSR doesn't help because she has to deal with the worst of everybody that calls but what can I do? I try to be as good to her as I can and try to tell her a lot there are great people out there in the world but she just constantly says she hates everybody and everybody sucks. What can I do to help her be more positive regarding people? Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless you all.
