There is one major differences between New Labour and Old Labour.

Old Labour folk were honest people who came from working families who were in politics to try to make a better life for working people.

New Labour is a party of liars, thieves and worst of all very few have ever done a days work in their lives but want to sell the country down the river to Europe because that is where the big money can be pilfered without any questions being asked.

Blue Labour, Or Brown Tories, whichever you wan to call them are more like Thatcher's Tory party than Old labour.
thye have pinched the Tory model of the voter as a selfish unprincipled liar ( Read Jung on projection) and it worked for them.

But they share a lot of things with Old Labour, like the hatred of the self employed ( look up IR35 and Section 660) - something that goes right back to Marx and is part of the inherent control freak nature you have to have in order to want to enter politics - it you don't want things done YOUR way you don't go into politics. You can trace much of the erosion of Civil liberties - started under Thatcher and taken to new heights by Blair, to the fact that the authoritarian brand of socialism defeated the anarchist variety.

On a more general note because politicians need votes to get elected and because it is impossible to get into power unless you are a member of one of the big parties, all parties will tend to converge on the same set of policies.

In the end it is us, the people who are responsible for the quality of politicians we get. Voting Labour/Tory because your parents/friends do leads to safe seats and a party with a roaring parliamentary majority and 28% of all votes case.

At the next election everyone should vote AGAINST the sitting MP, whether they like their MP or not. At least we would get some fresh ideas in the house

I think there is a difference....New Labour decided to keep the most of the same policies as the Thatcherites...eg., allowing council houses to be bought...which we can now see has had a devasting effect of the current housing market long term with little or no afforable housing for those not in employment with a 3 figure sum salary.......I love Tony Benn and Ken Livingstone and they both talk openly and honestly about the state of the current Government and the policies it pursues....not all MP's are the same thank God...

Yes there is: new labour spins even more.....(and steals even more conservative ideas than traditional labour ever did). Apart from that, yeah, they're the same money grabbing, ideas stealing idiots they always were.....did you see the new stealth tax they're imposing, on anyone who earns over £34000??? another £500 a year is quite a lot of money....unless you're a politician with million pound expenses (and totally secret) of course.

Yes there is a difference.

Old labour were socialist, and I disliked them for that, but they had some honesty.

New labour are not really socialist, but not really anything else either - but the fools who supported old labour vote for them as do a load of new fools.

Old Labour believed in the working classes. New Labour believe in whatever George Bush tells them to believe i and how to achieve it by whatever means.

I don't think there is much difference between any party, past, present or future. As Ken Livingstone said: voting is a waste of time as the government always gets in.

Or as Tony Benn demonstrated: by quitting as an MP so he could concentrate on politics.

Old Labour pretended to be socialist.

"New" Labour has dropped the pretense.

This labour party I do not recognise. They seem to be Tory
in disguise. All I know is I have no trust at all for any politician
once they get voted in all they think of is themselves.I am ashamed to admit this however I will never vote for any of them. How can you vote for some one you do not trust & up to now there is no one.
