Well, when you wash a car by hand, you can vary the pressure of your rubbing and spend more time on problem areas. You can also apply different types of waxes and polishes in a better way. There's also a much lower risk of bending your radio antennae, if you have an outside one. It's also an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. You can also say, "I did it" when someone compliments you on your car.

there is always a chance of getting the paint scratched when you use a car was as well as smashed mirrors and the like, but the water is recycled at a car wash and if there is and liquid that makes it through the filters it then goes on your car and could affect the finish in the long run due to that and to the pressure the equipment uses to wash the car. Better to wash by hand or even a quarter car wask, or half dollar car was is it now. lol

washing by hand-1) cheaper, unless you pay someone else to hand wash it.
2) details- you are less likely to miss spots and have a cleaner car ,if you hand wash versus driving through a car wash.
3) if you don't have alot of time to exercise, then this activity is great for your heart

More thorough cleaning (I think). No risk of breaking wipers/mirrors (I had my parking mirror smashed two weeks ago by a car wash). You get to choose what products to use on your car, and finally, it probably is more eco-friendly- yes you heat the water, but the car wash will use far more electricity!

Well, i would say that one of the main benefits is, Car Washes quite often scratch the paintwork off of your car.

If you wash it by hand, this is unlikely to happen.

Washing it by hand takes more time, thus, you can be more detailed, and lets face it,a car wash can only blow off so much, doing it by hand you can scrub off the stuck on things

None that I know of. Other than wasting your time and effort. I'll pay 10 bucks to get my car washed. My water bill will be more than that if I do it myself.

It's cheaper. You will know what products are being used on your car. I suspect that carwashes use pretty harsh products to remove the dirt and grease so quickly. You will be more careful.
