Middle schools are handing out condoms,(showing them how to put them on using a banana) high schools are giving our kids the "day after" pill without parents knowledge or consent. Then I see this article on Yahoo...
• "Joseph E. Hayes, a former principal in East St. Louis, Ill. DNA evidence in a civil case determined that he impregnated a 14-year-old student. Never charged criminally, his license was suspended in 2003. He has ignored an order to surrender it permanently.
• Donald M. Landrum, a high school teacher in Polk County, N.C. His bosses warned him not to meet with female students behind closed doors. They put a glass window in his office door, but Landrum papered over it. Police later found pornography and condoms in his office and alleged that he was about to have sex with a female student.
• Rebecca A. Boicelli, a former teacher in Redwood City, Calif. She conceived a child with a 16-year-old"
Are they "protecting" our kids, or themselves?

don't get me wrong, there are GREAT teachers out there, but when are we going to DEMAND the schools to allow US as parents to take back our rights as parents and decide for ourselves how and what WE want to teach our children?!!

When did "sex" become part of "reading, writing and math?
when did "putting on a condom" part of a GPA requirement?
I know I'm venting, but I need to get this out and I hope that everyone gets as mad about this as I am!!

Anjel, there are great teachers and great parents out there for sure! But not enough of them.
Because children weren't being taught enough about abstinence and/or safe sex the schools took over the job. Just as they cannot teach religion in the public schools, they also cannot teach moral fiber. So choices are taught- refrain from sex, safe sex and possible consequences or unsafe sex and almost sure consequences.
Yes, the teachers you mentioned and I am sure others are criminals. As are some parents and step parents as we hear in the news.
And some parents fully intend to educate their children about sex and it's beauty and consequences when they feel the time is right. But with 11 year olds have bj parties and 13 year olds getting pregnant, it might not be soon enough!
It is sad the innocence of childhood is ending earlier and earlier, but we must prepare them for the possibilities that are out there.

I used to go to East Side High school (E. St. Louis)and I have to say the school isn't too good begin with. I dropped out because it seemed like the teachers didn't really care. I never liked the schools in East St. Louis. I am sad that happened to a 14 year old. When I was in school there was this one incident where they found out the driver's ed teacher was sleeping with female students and bribing them with driver's permit.

There are many old stories about the strict discipline that teachers had to meet morally in olden days. Now the pendulum has swung and it is no longer a moral world even for those who lead and teach children. It has become a 'feel good' world where you can do anything you want and parents say to their children, "I don't want you to hurt and I don't want you to hurt anyone else." Then they turn them loose and all Heqq breaks loose because there is no discipline and no control. Behavior and teaching has broken down because we must not damage the little ones fragile psyche. I say damage their fragile little psyche before they destroy every shred of moral fiber that is left. And while you are at it, damage the psyche of the teachers and principals who have no principles.

I've been a teacher for 26 years (elementary school) and am saddened that teachers like that give the rest of us a bad reputation.

I am scared even to hug some of my little children! Isn't that awful? Some of them get no love at home, and they are all hungry for any attention.

I would never dream of the stuff that you told of.

I've always thought that the last person on earth who should be allowed to have sex is one who has to be shown how to put on a condom!! It's like having to show someone what a sack is for! But, for you folks who wanted liberalism - you got it!

we need to quit complaining and homeschool our children. God gave them to us not the government anyway. the real problem is- we need to quit being lazy. we need to quit worrying about keeping up with the joneses and have one parent at home to teach their children. we need to quit demanding the tv and the video games be the babysitter because we are too busy to be parents. we need to look inward instead of looking to blame someone or something. that is sadly the american way.
raise your own children and if you dont wanna do it- then dont have children. practice birth control. teach your children yourself what you want them to know.

I agree with you Anjel, parents need to be able to make those decisions concerning their children!! If it was my child I would be extremely angry if they were able to make those kind of decisions for them!!
