reality is always worse , i live in an old house that i rent and the owneer doesnt spent too much on the roof so each time it rains i have water dropping from the ceiling onto the floor, ofcourse i could go to the neighbours but the neighbour is a bit strange there was a shooting once because people thought he was hiding a woman in his house i was asleep and woke up from the bangs. later he came to me and told me if i could gt rid of a huge tree in the garden because he had respitory problems because of the semen of the tree. so i cut down the tree. his wife went to another place because he mistreated her including their two childs, now when iot rains the vbalcony gets full of water and he is too lazy to clean that up as a result the water goes through the balcony in my room and then my floor gets wet.

Unfortunately, the reality is is that the media escalates the fear mongering because this is one way the governments can control their people. If people think they are in trouble nad told they are in trouble then they will turn to their government to help them . This allows governments to push their agendas forward in the name of "saving" people when they know all along that these things you mentioned do not exist.
I wishpeople would begin to think for themselves instead of having government and media think for them.
The constitution last time I checked says "We the people..." NOT "We the sheep all...".

I am the father of an eleven year old girl and she and the neighbor boy (also eleven) have both said that a guy that cruises up and down our road has tried to pick them up (separately at different times). In that sense I am at least a bit uneasy.

I prefer reality.
Although, I do fear that mad goat who will violate me if I don't send that chain letter email to 28 people in the next 4 minutes.

Cowardice and fear mongering has been around as long as mankind. Being scared is the goal, both for the fearful and for those who'd take advantage of fear to profit by it and fulfill their own goals

I try to live each moment for what it is
being careful not to put myself or my children in any dangerous situation
but not letting this fear of what is out there affect my living

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil: for I am the meanest SOB in the valley.
