As a child this painting of the Joker scared me and my cousin a lot every time we slept over at my grandmother's house. A painting... of a fictional character...

Many Christian parents tell their children that the WORST pain that can't even be conceived literally exists to FOREVER torture 'sinners' who don't accept Jesus Christ by burning in a lake of fire.

If this isn't child abuse then I don't know WHAT is! I'd be petrified if my parents told me this as a child! (If they indoctrinated the belief into me, that is. They are Christian/Catholic, but never brought up Hell.. let alone as a scare tactic.)

I've never made coffee before in my life but I want to start making it at home. If someone could give me some basic info on how it works, like the different kinds of coffeemakers (is there one without filters, what is the "drip" coffeemaker) and some general tips, that's be great.

I have three things in a formula and it tells me to use newtons law of universial gravitation to find the moons orbital speed. I have the mean earth-moon distance in meters and the mass of earth and the moon in kg.... I have attempted to use several formulas and I am not sure what I need here. Could someone tell me how to set this problem up? Please help me. Please don't tell me to do my own homework and it will hurt me in the end. That doesn't help me. I am just looking for the proper set up here so I can learn how to do this. Thanks in advance.

A very common and popular understanding of "evolution" is that it is a theory that explains the entire process of the whole universe from beginning until now. (And the Theory of Relativity combined with the Bing Bang Theory argue for the truth that the universe had a beginning). Therefore, with THIS very COMMON understanding of "evolution", abiogenesis IS included within the concept of "evolution". This is the "popular" understanding of evolution, and is even reasonable with one of the many "definitions" of the word "evolution" given in Dictionaries.

Some atheists use "evolution" in this manner, just as Christians.

-
Sure, there is the definition of "evolution" that does NOT include abiogenesis, but only microevolution and/or the "supposed" development and differentiation of biological species via "macroevolution", etc...

-
But WHY do people get so infuriated? If people ask a question regarding "evolution" from the first standpoint, why so MUCH emotion?

American president's decisions affect the whole world adversely and otherwise.
American foreign policy affects all world citizens.

In view of the above shouldn't those who are affected by US foreign policy, (ie the citizens of the world) have some say on who becomes president.

At the moment we are without voice.

At the moment 100+ million US voters are deciding on issues that affect billions around the world.

For two years, I had chronic hemroid problems. I constantly went to the doctor and was given creams, suppositories, etc. I requested a general surgeon to do a colonoscopy and was told I wasn't old enough to worry about anything serious and having a colonoscopy. I was 44 at the time. They told me again I had hemroids, and to change my diet, use stool softeners, etc. In January 2006, I went to the doctor again because I had an abrasion in the vaginal region. I was told I had a tear, and still had hemroids. By April 2006 the problem was still there. I went to my gynecologist because the "tear" was still bothering me. He pulled back the sheet, covered me up and told me to see an oncologist. Make a long story short, if they had done their job, I would have a 95% survival rate, instead of the 40-60% rate I have now been given. Stage 0 instead of Stage IIB. Would you sue? Is it a waste of my time and energy? I just can't decide what to do and would like some ideas from others.

I drank some Chai (spiced tea and hot milk) thinking the warm milk would help me sleep - now I am having the classical "can't sleep, mind is wandering, boy I must have had caffiene" thing going on.

I thought about trying benedryl - anyone know of anything else that might help me sleep?

I am going to be 39 weeks pregnant next week. I have not received any pelvic exams [excluding a pap on my first visit, and a strep-B test at 36 weeks]. I have not received any vaginal exams as I am high-risk [bicornuate uterus/low amniotic fluids/grade 3 placenta] and was told no vaginal stimulation is prefered. I received 4 ultrasounds a week and 4 NST's [non stress tests, monitoring of the babys heart and my contractions] a week. My baby is head-down [NOT transverse/breech].

I was told at 39 weeks they will check my cervix for dilation. How do they check? My Mom says they only use a finger and feel up there.. I am convinced this would not work and they must use a speculum and actually look up there.. Right?

If I'm receiving NST's and ultrasounds 4 times a week to monitor positioning of baby and both the health of baby and I, is there really any reason I NEED to be checked vaginally???

I don't care how dilated I am, should I? I will get checked if I have contractions.

I'm screaming, can you hear me?
I'm crying, do you see?
I'm bleeding,will you save me?
I'm dying, do you care?

Kiss my lips one last time,
Say my name,
Dry the tears from your eyes,
Say goodbye
