No - Its not illegal to spank your children.
In some states, social services may do an investigation if someone reports you for hitting your child. My dad spanked my sister in public and someone called social services on him. They just came out and did an interview, realized it really was just a plain old-fashioned spanking and closed the investigation. People with opinions on spanking can be SO over-bearing.

Spanking on the bottom is ok you just cant smack them around there's a difference in disipline and beating lol. More people need to spank and make sure their kids behave. The schools around here even spank(corporal punishment) if the child is deserving of it. I would be careful of doing it in public though because a lot of people will take offense and possibly call child welfare which is a hassle but not necessarily a big deal where you are going to jail as long as it was a case of punishing not beating.

Different countries have different laws in regard to where and how the child may be spanked. Maybe in some countries even different states/provinces might have different laws.
Should it be illegal for parents to spank their children?
No, as long as the "spanking" is age-appropriate.
Even for those in the "terrible teens" as long as the parent is using a lot of discretion and is not provoking their children to wrath.
I mean, as a teen it sure ain't fun still getting an occasional "spanking", and the dreaded hairbrush or belt whacking the butt can sure HURT. But it does remind me of who is boss and that I am not. But if I know I "deserve" it I can accept it.
There is a difference between "spanking" and ABUSE. Never abuse your kids, even if they do abuse their parents!! That is a different kind of abuse, usually.

no it is not. although some people think it is, and those are the kids that need it the most. i was spanked as a child and i turned out just fine. my children are spanked and they are doing just fine. if more people would discipline their children everyone would be alot better off.
and if it ever does become illegal, guess i will be a fugitive of the law, because if my child needs it, he/she will still get it

This spanking question is so over-worked!
Every country has different laws in regard to where and how the child may be spanked.
Irrespective, spanking a child teaches them to modify others' behaviour by physical means, rather than communication.
Will all those spankers start talking to their kids for a change?
PS: I would not hesitate to grab my child with sudden urgency if he was about to touch something dangerous for example. Or give him a loving tap on the bott.

No. A parents job is to guide a child through his/her life. When they are young that is the only way to let them understand that they must listen. Especially to help keep themselves and others from danger. A sore rump and hurt pride is much less painful than some life threatening situations children can unknowingly get themselves into. God himself also tells us that if we spare the rod we hate our children, but if we love them we will correct them.

In some places it is considered illegal to spank your child and you can be given a misdemeanor citation. However, I am a firm believer in spare the rod spoil the child and think they need a little swat on the bum once in a while.

i dont agree with spanking a child at all i have 3 kids oldest is 15 and have never spanked them, i think it teaches them its ok to smack others when they dont do as they are told, other methods of punishment are taking away a fav toy, put them on a naughty step, dont let them play outside, stop them from having sweets, there are lots of ways you can punish a child without smacking them.

In some countries it is I think NewZealand has that rule . really there are other ways to discipline your children.most spankings are from the parents frustration its quick and easy but not a nice thing to do. a little smack and sent to a naughty corner is ok by me but you need to talk to the child if they are old enough
