Traditionally, quantum calculations were structured in terms of statistical probability, ie. the notion of subatomic processes being indeterministic. Some people such as Einstein and Hooft have proposed or believed in the idea of "hidden variables", ie. the idea that if we believe quantum processes are indeterministic, we must have forgotten to take something into account. They believe that a future theory, or observations, will one day demonstrate determinism.

My questions are
A) What is the latest scientific consensus on this?
B) If most scientists believe in quantum indeterminism (or aren't sure), how are philosophers such as Daniel Dennett (for example, in "Freedom Evolves") arguing against free will? What rational cases are being made for saying that free will is an illusion?

I'm guessing a case can be made, but if quantum indeterminism is still generally accepted, I don't see how such cases could be rooted in empirical evidence.

Please cite sources if possible. Thanks.

in an armwrestling match and is making it tough on me. I was being kinda sassy to her so she challenged me in armwrestling and won. She has made fun of me ever since and even makes me wear panties. She says I have to do this because she wears the pants and is stronger than me. sometimes she even embarasses me by making me show her friends what I am wearing. I like my girlfriend but is this fair?

My friend is saying a 500 team has made a BCS bowl game before, and I am saying they have not. Maybe a 3 or 4 loss team, but not 500. Can anyone recall who has the worst record and still made a BCS game.

Recently we always hears about doctor's carelessness in doing their jobs. Their patients have suffered. Some of them died or got physically handicapped. So, what are your comment? Should we blame them or they have any reasons?

Is meditative travelling in time and space the same as travelling through worm holes where time-space fabric is distorted to an extent that two distant points meet each other and once can simply step into another time-space ?? Is it that yogis/meditators use mental powers to distort time-space fabric and thus travel back and forth in no time ??

"We're all mad here" or "We are all mad here".
and "And nobody would be lonely".
any language besides English (obviously), and make sure it's exactly right, and you label what language it is in. if you can give me more than one, it's appriciated as well. and, i'd especially like if someone could tell me the Finnish translation, by the way. :D

I have been living in my partners home town for 3 years since 2004 , and it was a trek for me since im a city chick with a open mind,.I thought this would be interesting. Now I hate it here since I realised it wasnt working in so many ways .One of them was my butting in , overly needly over talker , passive aggressive selfish only caring for her son's welfare mother in law.Now I have mentioned to her im going back to the city and she thinks by me going her son will follow which he will eventually in a years time or so.Mother keeps mentioning to me to stay in this town by meeting other country people, but I already know the novelty has worn off and I need to stretch my wings and grow instead of hiding in the country.I need more mental stimulation and culture.Since I arrived the mother in law saw me as a threat and competition , and now that she knows Im leaving she's sweet as pie.I knew she was going to behave like this, but it only makes my departure hard.
How do I handle this one ?

Why would a guy ask "Does Emily like me?" but tell Emily he didn't say it...ppl were lyin' on him!!!!
Then when Emily went back where she heard it...the person she was talking to decided to face the guy down. Then he said I don't remember saying it. Maybe I did.

What does it sound like to you?

Why would he ask if Emily liked him?
Why would he "forget" he said it?
Why would he lie?
Do you think he likes Emily or hopes she doesn't like him?

The way Murat was treated and depicted by the press was terrible.

So, with that in mind, Kate has not been found guilty, but only named as a suspect like Murat. However tempting it is to point the finger and venom towards her and Gerry we should let due process happen.

Trial by court, not trial by public opinion.

Not a question, I know, but thought it was worth saying.

I work for a travling medical company and am contracted out to hospitals and such, at my most recent employeer I had to call out sick one day, I had the next 4 days off so I figured the next day since I was feeling better why not go out of town to see a few family members, when I returned to work my boss who was not scheduled for work came in and forced me to have a meeting with her at which point she began yelling and cursing me telling me I was a liar and I was out of town when I called out sick, she had no facts to back this up just her gut feeling, she then called my main company and told them this fabrication as well at which point they called and told me this may hinder future jobs due to the bad reference, my contract was also terminated early due to this. I feel like she has really put me in a bad spot by making up this story for which she has not an ounce of proof. Do you guys think that this could be grounds for a slander law suit? Any advise would be very much appreicated.
