Why not try visiting your local Voluntary Centre? That way you can volunteer for a range of different causes to see what you'd like best.

Just do it. Only today, I had to walk downtown to pay a bill, it was about 3miles from my house. I am 70 years old. About half way there I saw a stalled vehicle on a busy highway the traffic would have been blocked for several blocks because they could not see. I began to direct traffic to another (Passing) lane and when the traffic was clear behind the stalled pickup truck, two men pushed it into a large post office parking lot.

I continued on and after I left the building where I had paid my bill, I crossed the street to return home. I heard the horn of a pickup truck at the intersection and the driver leaned out of the window and said to me: "I appreciated your directing traffic for me".

I was shocked; this was a mile and a half and 30 minutes after I had performed my "good deed" I never thought it possible that I would see that truck again not to mention the driver whom I did not see in the beginning. BUT GOD DID. and GOD Knew that I would see your posting. And for sure GOD will lead you to someone to help.

It depends on whether you want to do it voluntary or paid.

If you want to volunteer (and sometimes this is the best way to get a reference for a paid job), contact your local job centre, citizens advice bureau or volunteer bureau. Some charities/organisations advertise in newspapers as well. I ran a volunteer bureau for 5 years, and we (and the organisations we placed volunteers with) really appreciate the offered help. If you dont know what sort you want to do, give them a call, discuss which organisations/charities in your area need your support and they will arrange for you to go along and meet the people of the organisation. Its becoming more and more "fashionable" for people to volunteer as this is also a way of finding out whether you want a career in a particular field. It is amazing the different organisations that require volunteers, it can be anything from helping kids/animals/people to restoring old ships/cars/trains. Most volunteer bureaux have a comprehensive list of organisations, and the work they do, and they will help you to sort out which ones you would like to try. Most organisations can give small petrol/bus fare allowances so that you wont be out of pocket. There is also volunteering overseas, again get the info from your volunteer bureau. Also, a lot of organisations can provide free or reduced training so that you can gain qualifications in your chosen field.

try volunteering somewhere and find the area that brings you enjoyment, there is so many agencies that need people to help them out, you could read to the blind, help out at kids in distress, visit a nursing home in your area, make cards for the old people who live there that don't have mail or visitors
