I am getting a personal check from my grandparents for $19,400. It used to be in some sort of account that they had set up for my college but I am done with school and they are sending me the rest in the form of a personal check. While this was in the account it was taxed but the account was closed and the money is in their checking account. When they send this check to me, will I have to pay any sort of tax on it because the amount is large? Also because of the large amount do I have to report this to the IRS? The info that I have found leads me to think that because this isn't considered "cash" by IRS terms, I don't have to report it. Any help would be great!

I've been engaged for several months, and we were planning on getting married next June, but I found out a few weeks ago that I'm pregnant. We're both really excited about it, as are our families. Sure, our families would rather us be married before having kids, but they are happy for us. We've been living together for a little over 6 months, both have nice jobs, are renting a nice house, and have been financially independent from our families for a long while. We were planning on paying for our wedding ourselves, so it's not like mommy and daddy or the government are going to be taking care of us, or our child. We were thinking about pushing the wedding back another year, my due date is mid April, that's about a 1 1/2 months before our wedding, things would be little rushed. Some people have been telling me how important it is that we are married before having a child, but should we rush into a wedding just so we don't have an illegitimate child?

My boyfriend and I are have almost 4 month old daughter together. I don't work but I stay home with her all day. He works 3rd shift and I totally understand his need for sleep but I need more help and he ignores my wishes. Even on weekends when he is home I'm the one that does almost everything for her! I don't mind doing it but sometimes I get frustrated and need more help than he gives ..

I have tried to explain this to him but it just starts a fight ..
