I'd heard this before, but I came across the full version of a quote by Hubert Selby Jr today; his explanation of why he became a writer. Very profound stuff.

I was sitting at home and had a profound experience. I experienced, in all of my Being, that someday I was going to die, and it wouldn't be like it had been happening, almost dying but somehow staying alive, but I would just die! And two things would happen right before I died: I would regret my entire life; I would want to live it over again. This terrified me. The thought that I would live my entire life, look at it and realize I blew it forced me to do something with my life.


So this begs the question: how can we live lives that are not only fulfilled, but lived to our potential? What sort of activities should take the highest priority: fostering relationships? volunteering? spreading our moral imperitives?

I hate existential quandaries. (Adding more details, give me a minute.)

I'm sick of the guy upstairs from me. He has laminate wooden floor and clumps about all night. It's unbearable the noise, and my whole flat feels like it's shaking. His TV is up full blast too. He looks like a big scary guy (I'm female and live on my own) and i really don't want to approach him. My mate has offered me the use of her drumkit, and i'm really tempted to take it and hammer hell out of it at 3 in the morning to teach him a lesson. If he wants noise, he WILL get noise. What do you think? Would i just make things worse? Feel like i want to give him a taste of his own medicine. Thanks. x

There came a point in my life when I would just pig out. I'd eat everything that came my way, and I still wouldn't gain weight.
Even though I would be constantly eating like I've never eaten before, I could only eat like that around my family. Around other people, I feel somewhat uncomfortable stuffing my face with food. I mean, it just doesn't look right. I'm one of those people that would seem as if I'd walk into a restaurant and order a salad.

I recently fell into this deep depression, and I dramatically dropped a few pounds. I can't seem to get them back.
I can't really try stuffing my face again, (it didn't bring back much results) I'm always with my boyfriend and it just seems kind of weird If I sneak off to eat a burger when he's not looking. Or pretent to hug him while I take a bite out of a taco.
I eat nice, square meals a day, but how can I speed this up w/out him noticing I'm eating every half hour?

i am 6 feet 160 lbs, 16 years old (average body), and i want to add muscle all around me like arms, chest, abz, back, legs.... how many times should i be working out to start off with and what should i move up to. also what should i be eating and avoiding (besides junk food, i know that ) thanks

The pizza crust taste bad like cardboard and the put way too much sauce and very little cheese. The texture of the crust is bad too. They don't even have stuffed crust pizza. I'm a cheese kind of person and I like alot of cheese on my pizza and very little sauce!

A Star is formed when gases our pulled together by gravity. As the gases get more and more condensed they start to heat up. Gravity is still during this process continually making it more and more dense, thus the mass of gas becomes hotter and hotter until it finally gets hot enough to produce nuclear fusion. At this point the nuclear fusion helps counteract the natural force of gravity by burning up it's helium that is produced by the process, thus causing the star to shine and also and more importantly pushing against the force of gravity not letting it further condense it any smaller. If not for the stars nuclear fusion and it burning up it's helium in the battle against gravity it would collapse and gravity would win. In which case once it uses up all it's helium, gravity will win taking it to the next phase of it's life.

My question is this, if gravity is a universal law affecting all mass the same, then why aren't planets..........ran out of characters one sec
