Yesterday my check engine light in my car came on, and I've noticed lately that when I get out of my car, I smell like gas. Also, my AC doesn't seem to be as cold..are these issues related? If so, what?

Seriously if you smell gas and don't know where its coming from, I would be inclined to find out or have the car towed for repairs. Engine fire is something I would not risk. You already know there is a problem because the engine light is on.
Worst case scenario is that the high pressure fuel injection rail is leaking and spraying gas inside the engine compartment. Best case scenario, the fuel cap is not on tight and you are smelling gas vapors.

Any time you have check engine light (CEL) come on - the first thing is to get it scanned. Guessing will just cost you money. The CEL can be any one of many things.

AutoZone (and other auto parts store) are now scanning ODBII for free.

Fix one problem at a time. Whatever is causing CEL, if fixed may also fix other (or your) problems.

Good Luck.

yea they might be involved because if u smell gas, u might have a gas leaking (which is dangerous) to the a/c connection and the a/c might not be getting that much gas or energy to work properly

Check you gas lines to see what shape they are in and also fuel filter lines.

Get a decent and hopefully honest mechanic if there is any such thing. You have a serious problem, and you better get it taken care of.
