Throughout military history, there have always been weapons, theories, and strategies that prove decisive to victory. I was wondering how many weapons or tactics have been invented with the idea that the weapon is so horrible, that it'll never be used and war would be history.

A few do come to mind...the gatling gun, and the atomic bomb. The gatling gun for it's time was considered so awesome that it would never be used.....

What other weapons besides the gatling gun and atomic bomb were invented with the notion that they may never be used?

I have been waking up in the morning with horrid lower back spasms. So bad that I cant get up, hardly walk, bend over...anything really. I have a 5 month old so this has been a problem. I do have DDD so I know some of the pain is coming from there....but this has been going on for weeks. It gets better if I take vicodin, soma and some ibuprofen. My doctors have not been too helpful....say its probabably the "normal" pain from carrying around a baby but I know its not. The pain is unbearable in the AM. It gets better, like I said, but never goes away. Could I have a disk problem? I dont know what to do. Everytime I have seen the docs they just give me more pain meds....and now when I call I think they think that is all I am looking for.

I have been learning about a lot of esoteric knowledge, and I was really impressed with how the religion of Christianity connects with a lot of things.

So last year has been a very big year for me. I was an atheist, but now thanks to the internet and the abundant knowledge I am a Chrstian again.

Surfing the net I stumbled upon this site: http://home.netcom.com/~mokeeffe/Karma&Christ.htm

Now what it says is that if a child is abused by its parent we shouldn't feel sorry for that child. For, and I am quoting, "in a past incarnation they were very abusive, and if the abused child is beaten to death by his parent, it is certain that he himself (or herself) once beat a child to death."

I am NOT admitting to doing evil things. I am just questioning this kind of karma because it doesn't feel right. I thought we were supposed to treat evil with goodness? I want to think know what others think about this subject.

I am thinking about trying out for Urinetown at a local theater and was wondering what some good roles for women are in the show. I got the soundtrack, but I'm still not that familiar with the story. I have a pretty wide vocal range. What are some fun parts for women to play and a character description would be great too. Thanks! (Also, if you're familiar with both shows which would be better to try out for, Urinetown or Man of La Mancha?)

It doesn't make sense to plan and hope for a baby and then after your maternity leave, go right back to work and leave your child in someone else's care. If your lifestyle or expenses require that you work outside the home, why bring children into the world that YOU can't care for?

It makes sense to become a mother only if you are willing to be a full-time mother, b/c that's what kids need.

I just received my Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook in the mail and I noticed it goes dead rather quickly. After charging it for one full night, I only have 2 hours and 17 minutes worth of battery power left. This is the first laptop computer I have owned, so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is normal. Any ideas?

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on US 95 south, just outside of Washington DC. Nothing is moving north or south. Suddenly a man knocks on his window.
The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What happened?" What's the hold up?"

"Terrorists have kidnapped Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and John Kerry. They are asking for a $100 million ransom.
Otherwise, they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection."

The driver asks, "On average how much is everyone giving?"

"About a gallon."
