I would speak to your local registry office.. The same place you go to register births, deaths and marriages.. I think they deal with all that sorta stuff..

You can change your name at any time providing it is not for fraudulent purposes. However, if you go to the Citizen's Advice Bureau they will arrange a letter for you and your children stating by which names you wish to be known and this is free of charge. You cannot change birth certificates or marriage licences. You would need the above-mentioned letter in the future if you or your children were to apply for a legal document such as a passport .

If the children have a different father, you can not change their name unless the father signs a paper releasing parental rights throught the courts. You can change your name, but call a lawyer in your state to make sure you do everything legally.

you should talk to your local registry office to change surnames but if your children are over 12mths old you cannot add a middle name to their name.(you have from birth until age 12mths to do this if you wished)
If you look up your local council online...and registrar
i.e...bradford council marraige deaths registrar it should bring you to their web page then email them and ask how it is done and how much it costs.

P.S I know you dont have to go to court to change a childs surname in the UK
(my brother did this with his stepdaughtr)

since you are married, you can probably just take your marriage license to the social security office (and whatever other ID they require) to change your own name.

i'm not sure how this is done for the children. you could ask at the social security office.

sometimes, name changes have to go through the courts and can be very costly.

take care

You will have to do this legally, through the court system, and yes, you will have to pay to do this. You should be able to get the paperwork and find out how much at your local court house.

to change your name you need to take your marriage cert. to DMV and SS and any where else and change your name. To change the kids names you should contact the family courts...I do believe you need to go to court to change it.
