2 schools of thought regarding incarceration. 1) punitive 2)reform. Recidivism is a huge problem. Illiteracy is rampant among inmates, and in the 70s, it was shown that teaching inmates to read greatly reduced recidivism rates. What do you think? Assume we can do so by restructuring, and not by raising taxes...

Hey umm... I want to get Xbox Live for Chrismas and I was just curious as to what kind of connection I need. Like just a regular dial-up connection or do I need ethernet or what? Also, what are the rates on it and do you think that they are a fair price or over charged? Thanks, Rae

I have just finished reading "Price of Honor" by Jan Goodwin and I must admit my opinon about Islam changed considerably.

I concluded that peaceful Muslims do not dare to demonstrate or speak against fundamentalists out of fear, because these groups (Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood) threaten with death anyone who dares to criticize them.

Do you agree or disagree with me?

Additional Details

An American friend of mine says that if peaceful Muslim spoke out/demonstrated against radicals, the opinion of the West about Islam would improve... hence the question.

I am financing $13,759 on my new car at 15.75% (this is my first new car). I have made 3 payments on time at $335, and my new balance is $13,559. I haven't yet heard a response from toyota financial about this, so I was wondering, does this sound right? It seems to me that my balance should be lower than that. Can someone explain this to me?

The attacks on the WTC were a hideous attack on innocent people and a crime against humanity but is it not only a tiny example of terrorism and religiously motivated attacks?

The total number of deaths due to the crusades had been estimated at around nine million, at least half of which were Christians.
Ultimately, 2,749 death certificates were filed relating to the WTC attacks.

I feel that my bosses & co-workers want so much of my time but really don't respect all of the the things I do for the company. My bosses want me to stay late to help other departments get caught up with there job and want me to come in early so I can do my job. With all of the money that I am making I'm about to start my own business making triple of what I am making now. My co-workers that bug me & say that I never do anything even though I help them, want to be my business partners. My question to you people is should I hold all of my co-workers & bosess accountable for some of the disrespect I have recieved on my job and not try to help none of them out when I start making real good money. What would you do if you were in my shoes. I know that this is not the category to ask this type of question but i will get the most responces here. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

I have been with my guy for 2 years. He says that he knows that I am the one for him and that he does want to marry me 'someday'. I moved across the country to be with him(his job) and now we are moving to another state because his job is transfering him again. I would never want to marry him if he wasn't ready, but I am confused as to why he says he wants to, but just not 'yet'. If he really wants to marry me, why would he want to put it off?

My first love and i ran into each other after almost 10 years. We met when i was 16 years old and this shy, insecure, slightly snobby, and prepie looking class girl.He was the bad boy, with smart *** mouth, and a loner who lived in a tralier park.My parents thought he was white trash and hated him but even though we hated each other in the begining we fell in love hard and we dated almost 4 years. We split for dumb reasons mainly conserned with pride on both sides.I dated around after that for a while before meeting my husband of 3 yrs now who i am misreable with and lonley even though he gives me anything i want.Seeing him makes me remeber how happy i was when i felt loved, safe, protected, respected, and could talk to him .He ended up getting a scholar ship and going to college he is now an entreprenneur. We have had coffee/lunch three times am i torturing myself?

In the early 1970s, the Supreme Court held that the death penalty was constitutional (i.e., not cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment), but also held that because of the irreversible weight of the punishment, special due process requirements had to be met. In those early cases, the Court struck down mandatory death penatly statutes, holding that there should always be an individualized determination of aggravating and mititgating factors made by a finder-of-fact to determine whether the death penalty should be imposed. However, for the last 30 years, giving discretion to juries and to prosecutors has statistically produced controversial results that disturb even those people who favor the death penalty. For example, the average black defendant who is found guilty of murdering a white victim is several times more likely to get the death penalty (rather than life in prison) as a punishment versus a white defendant who is found guilty of murding a black victim
