This question requires some extensive research, not just
knee jerk emotional reactions, as any arm chair quarterback
may observe.
Yes, the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center is another date that will live in infamy, however, payback may be too high a price to pay.
Why do I say that? President Bush had the inside balls to push
for a war in Iraq, ostensbly to seek and destroy weapons of mass destruction (WMD) which later we found there weren't any!
Then P/Bush came out with the theory that the coalition along with the Untied States, would help the Iraqis set up and sustain
a democratic form of government, which any rational western
hemisphere person who lives on planet earth, knows that the
warring factions between the Shiites, the Sunnis, and the Kurds
(which are all Arabs, although have differing opinions on how to practice Islam) and these religious differences cause much
strife between the three religious sects. And have been in this
warring conflict for at least 1,500 years of Christian history.
Question: Why does President Bush expect to democratize the
Iraqi government, if possible, based on Iraq's checkered past for
fair and balanced government to be administered to its citizens?
There is no easy or pat answer for this one, the status remains as an open sore, that will not heal.
Civil wars are just that, any country must fight its own battles to
obtain its own rights, privileges and freedoms.
To have another country step in and fight Iraq's war for them is folly, as the Iraqis themselves will eventually blame the United States for any thing that goes wrong, down the time line.
They already spit and flame the US flag, and burn P/Bush in effigy.
In the mean time, its businss as usual, with oil exploration,
drilling and pipeline distribution, and load outs to the super-tankers at the nearest seaports on the Persian Gulf.
Remember there are trillions of US dollars invested in the Saudi-Arabian oil fields alone, and other major foreign countries want their piece of the oil pie as well, in this case billions of barrels of oil. (crude)
And you have the political maneuvering of Russia, China, India
France, Germany, the UK, and others.
The complexities of the political affairs of the Middle East are little more than a giant powder keg, fixed with a short fuse and on an almost instant detonator.
And with our business relations with China so involved, further
negotiations with their representatives becomes even more
confusing, and with Russia, their government has been selling AK-47 assault rifles and other guns and munitions to the al-Qaeda, the militant arm of Osama bin-Ladin, and have been helping to kill our soldiers and marines in Iraq, this should be stopped, immediately.
I don't make foreign policy for the United States, but if I did, I
think I would replace Condoleezza Rice, as Secretary of State,
as she has impeccable credentials, academically, but as 1st representative of the US, she does not have the foresight, the
intestinal fortitude, to deal with Arabs, and Arabs respect no women, so we are left out in the cold, in terms of political strategy and tactics.
As far as for the number of lives lost, you can't fight any war and expect no casualties, there are no ethics in war.
Thats why they call it war.
There will always be losses of life, cannot be avoided.
The question becomes for the generals how can we minimize
the loss of our GIs, with optimum strategy and tactics, thats how
any battle to win a war has been fought, some came out better,
some not at all, depends on a roll of the dice, sometimes.
If you want to look at it philosophically, America loses its people
to natural causes, diseases, auto/vehicle accidents,(DUI,DWI)
extreme sports accidents, mountain climbing incidents, other.
No, I don't believe in feeding our troops into a never ending maw to
face a horrible death of some type, and for what purpose, is there an objective, and when achieved, what's beyond?
You will never hear answers to the above question from any
politicians as none of them including P/Bush has the guts, the determination, the moxie, the intestinal fortitude to tell the American people the truth, for once.
So we must do our own speculation regarding current, political, world events, and hope that CNN/ABC/NBC/CBS/MSNBC/CNBC
can get at least one story straight, otherwise their credibility will wind up on the ashheap of history!
Terrorism to some people can be defined as soldiers of liberty,
and the soldiers for the liberation army, etc.
I'm a Christian, and I believe in the higher power, and right doesn't always make right, but if you have total faith, that works,
great for me.
Amen.
Thats my message, good luck.
