My mentally handicapped brother-in-law is 25 years old and still does not count the number of items in a set correctly. He knows his numbers, but when counting items, he'll sometimes say 2 numbers for one item. It looks to me like he is chanting the numbers to a preset rhythm in his mind, rather than waiting until he touches the next item to say the next number. His mother (my mil) has not given up on teaching this concept to him, and so I'm scrounging around for any ideas to give her. Are there any good activities or curricula that address this problem? Thanks for any help you can give!

well i am currently in 11th grade and in spanish 3 (but i began it at my old school)..i moved to a new school last year and spanish 3 was not available at the time that I moved to my new school. So about 4 weeks ago I started the 2nd half of spanish 3 at my new school which is roughly where I left off. well all the other students have been in this class since the beginning of the year and I have just come in during the 2nd half of the semester and it seems like my teacher isnt willing to help me catch up. the main thing is my teacher is a total grouch to me and gets mad when I ask any questions! the other day she went around asking students if they were going to spanish 4 then AP spanish. when she got to me she said "this is your last year right"..this really makes me upset because I wanna continue with my spanish(it will also look very good on college apps)but she is the only spanish 4 and AP teacher at my school! if i told her i wanted to take it she would prob make fun of me HELP!

A friend of mine has developed an intense crush on someone who is completely off-limits, and I mean completely. The friend has no idea why this crush started and never wanted it, but from the moment she first saw this person it was like her world changed (sounds hokey, but it's true). She is an otherwise normal person who is married (not happily) with kids.
She sees this person throughout the day and there is no way to avoid the person without exposing the crush. The crush has lasted for more than 2 months and feels like its getting stronger instead of fading. How can she stop these feelings before the crush lands her in a whole wide world of trouble? If the answer is stop thinking of the person, how? "Out there" thought: this friend is starting to believe there must be some sort of metaphysical connection that would explain this unexplainable attraction. I have a 2 1/2 month old daughter at home and I am so desperate. My daughter maybe sleeps like 9 hours out of a whole 24 hour day if I am lucky. I really need help. Like for example last night I gave her final bottle and she fell asleep after eating the whole 7 ounces and so I laid her in her crib, 5 minutes later she was screaming. I tried this 3 times in a row until I was so tired that I just let her sleep with me. Please any advice would be great! Thanks

The cause and effect of cigarette smoking is a slowly progressive plague that my Gandmother died from. I miss her. She diden't want to die but she was so addicted and weak. I belive if she could be alive and as if she never starded smoking but with the knowlidge of the extreme pain and suffering she would eperience, she would simply decline the weaknesses of addiction and death!
I have never known a body to be in such agony as some time before the end of her life. Will people ever be safe from this terrible psychological disease.

Am I the only one who cannot believe the level of illiteracy out there? This site has Spellcheck for crying out loud! I'm not talking about shorthand here (imho, lol etc etc). I'm talking about things like "fued", "sence" , i before e, and they're, there and their. There are way too many to put here; I'm sure you get the idea.

Difficult to put this delicately - he's been potty trained for well over a year, but in the last two weeks he's "messed" his underwear at preschool twice, and his mother put him in "pull-up" diapers and he continues the same problem at preschool. My daughter needs advice, and the best I could come up with was to check with the doctor to rule out health problems and otherwise, ignore it and just clean him up because he might be looking for attention in a negative manner.

I would say that they are all wise men. But I would have to give the title to Ralph Nader by just a hair. His work as a consumer advocate over the years has been extremely helpful. If they could somehow form a coalition...wow.
