I always got mine in cash. Direct depost was not available at that time. You would be paid in US Dollars or if you were in Vietnam, you were paid in military scrip. Most guys had their pay sent home by Western Union at no cost.

ALL GIs got a reguar payday. Over seas, as when in Viet Nam, they'd receive a form of scrip, valued in US Dollars, which locals were expected to honor as they would reguar US currency.
Also, most soldiers were expected to bank a certain amount of money. Sailors, on ship, also received a kind of scrip, to make personal item purchases, such as snacks, magazines and books.

they were definately paid when they got home. Cause if u come to think of it it would have been of just about no use carrying around your pay check on the battle field.

Paychecks??? All cash. Which was a problem, because back in those days the military wasn't as ¿clean? as it is today. Lots of theft and drugs back then because the draft took whoever it could.
