Difficult to put this delicately - he's been potty trained for well over a year, but in the last two weeks he's "messed" his underwear at preschool twice, and his mother put him in "pull-up" diapers and he continues the same problem at preschool. My daughter needs advice, and the best I could come up with was to check with the doctor to rule out health problems and otherwise, ignore it and just clean him up because he might be looking for attention in a negative manner.

I'm with you ... I'd check with a doctor. But, if there's nothing physical wrong ... you have to consider what has changed with him psychologically. Is someone being mean to him at pre-school? If it's primarily happening there, I'd say something there is triggering this. And, if it's an attention issue, you need to bring it up with his teachers and find out if there's a solution.

My daughter reverted for a little while after being potty trained... She was so focused on playing she'd forget to go.

Make sure your grandson isn't under extra stress or being bullied.... if there are other major life events going on in the family that could cause the issue as well.
Ask the daycare to ask him every once in a while if he has to go... chances are he gets so involved in playing or activities he forgets til it's too late.
Pull ups are great but I've found it gives them the go ahead.
She might also want to try a reward system... that always helps!
Good Luck!

Its not really that he is looking for attention. Sometimes it might be that he may be getting rushed when he goes to the bathroom. My son is five years old, he has been patti trained since he was 1. Now that he is in K he has had a situation where he doesn't use it on himself, he just doesn't go because he sais that the teacher tells him to hurry up. Sometimes little kids stay in the bathroom for a long time and it's understandable but teachers are not willing to wait how we wai.

Has there been any major changes in their lives? New baby, moving, new baby-sitter, divorce or seperation? Sometimes a life-change can cause a child that has been potty-trained for a while to revert. If this is the case he just needs a little more attention.

Maybe he just cant hold it and he is having to much fun to realize he has to go maybe he should be asked if he needs to go once in a while.
