What does this term mean? "Like busboys in a restaurant..." From the movie - STAND BY ME?

When Gordie is narrating near the end, he says

"Friends come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant"

What does this mean? What does he mean by busboys? I know what it means kinda, like they come in and out of your life but leave. I just want to know what you people think. What is a busboy?

Help!! Im having a hard time with asthma and have friends coming over......?

I have been really suffering with asthma for the last few days, i put my friends off from coming last night but cant again tonight as its the last time I will see them before there wedding next week. Im exhausted - any tips on how to bluff my way through the eve and get some energy back????

My 6 year old daughter wants to be a fashion designer. What can I do to encourage her enthusiasm for designing

I already bought her a little sewing machine, but it doesn't work very good and she gets frustrated that she can't actually make an outfit. She designs her outfits on paper, but I have very limited knowledge when it comes to sewing, so I can't really help her make the outfit she has designed. She's so "into" it and I hate to waste her enthusiasm. This may just be a passing thing, but I would hate to not encourage anything that she's so passionate about.

How can someone help others who cut themselves?

I have a close young friend who I found out cuts herself to relieve anger. She is very beligerent about authority figures or recieving advice. I want to be there for her and help her, but I don't know what to do or say. I have no experience with this and don't understand it. I don't want to make things worse. I am quite a bit older than she is and she sees me as a friend but also an authority figure. How can I help her?

College or Move to NY for a Job ?

I have enrolled in School this Fall, schedule, is done, Financial Aid is in order all I have to do is show up. Been putting off College for 10 years, I make decent money now but I would like to be more marketable in the long run since I only have a high school diploma and losing the job I have would mean I would start at entry level again, a pay cut which I can't live with, etc. at the same time there is speculation of lay offs at present job in October/November of this Year just don't know who, how many, etc, so sort of a gamble to stay or not to stay. The next day after Orientation and I have wrapped my brain around the fact I am going back to school Full time I am offered a Job in NYC, more pay than I get now. But in the long run may or may not be for me. I have lived in NY before so not a stranger to living there. Oh yeah and I would have a month from now to start working there. What would you do ?

VALID comparrison or not .JEWS are to ISLAM what liberals are to conservatives.?

OFTEN jews and islamics , lived side by side for years ,without violence . Then all of a sudden violence breaks out .THE jews slowly take an inch here , there and on and on until as they say , the straw that broke the camels back occurs.
THIS leads the offended islamics to violently attack the jews , any of them. They will not stop coming and taking until we kill them all is the thinking.
SO we end up with the western view of this as wrong for killing innocent women and children.THEY all see no innocents.
In order for real war we must put on a uniform and march onto some selected battle field and dare the enemy to remove us.
WHAT a warped view of current stratigy in warfare.
Korea , Vietnam and other wars around the globe have shown , that a new way of achieving , your goals, is the disruption ,of life on a national scale , in order to pressure the governments to give in and make peace.THIS peace only comes when both sides agree we all want a peacefull life to raise our families In.
