I have heard that both Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square are good places to stay while in San Francisco. What do you recomment? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Is there a place where I can have a little bonfire in San Francisco. Ocean beach has fire pits, but they forbid fires during "spare the air" days.

1). is it true I cant have start a fire on these days?
2). is their any other Bay Area Beach that will let me decide for myself?

Of course the gays in the Castro are Democrats. Of course the ageing hippies in Berkeley are Democrats - and aggresive ones, judging by the bumper stickers, on the Volvos fighting for parking space at the organic-produce Berkeley Bowl.

What are some urban, expensive sort of areas in California. I'm not buying a house or anything, by the way. I need a setting for a story. (besides Orange County)

I need a community that's not too city-like and crowded and has very expensive houses in California. Any ideas?

I ride a bike to work and find it safer to ride on the sidewalk which is never used by any pedestrians on the route I ride.

The business charges $33 dollars for a vehicle to park,50 yards from a loud interstate highway. What a waste of money.Might as well park and buy a motel, virtually the same fee.

I personally enjoy Mount Tamalpais because you can practically see the whole bay area from its summit.

I was originally thinking of buying my boyfriend a kayak, but am now thinking of spending a couple of days in Mendocino and doing a kayaking trip instead. It would be great to find a place for under $100/night betweeen 12/28 and 01/02.

Actually I am from San Francisco, but I am bringing my Italian boyfriend there for the first time. I feel overwhelmed with options for a first time visitor. What would you recommend besides the touristy Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown? Any hip nightclubs, bars or restaurants (I haven't been out in a while though only 32)? I want to show him the best of my city without boring him with tourist attractions. Thanks so much.

I've already tried Highway 80 about a month ago. It was pretty hilly and this time I'm towing a trailer as well. I'm looking for the least hilly or lowest elevation into California.....not at all worried about which way is the quickest. Highway 15? Highway 40? Some other smaller highway? I also don't even want to have to think about putting chains on my tires...I'd rather drive a little longer.

I plan to drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles and would not mind breaking my journey on the way to see any scenic places. I have heard Big Sur is a good option. Are there any other such places?
