I ride a bike to work and find it safer to ride on the sidewalk which is never used by any pedestrians on the route I ride.

Generally, it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk. But if the sidewalk isn't crowded then go for it. In the rare case that you get stopped say that you were worried for your safety. It's a petty ticket so don't stress over avoiding it.

A problem which frequently occurs is that when a bike riding on the sidewalk goes to cross an intersection the vehicles cannot see the bike because it isn't where it is supposed to be.

Dan is wrong. In some areas it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk. And the fine can be as high as $275 ! I know because a friend of mine got such a ticket. I did'nt believe him until he showed me the ticket. He was a block away from the court house, and you can't ride a bike near the court house for some reason. Only little kids should ride on the sidewalk anyway!!! If you're an adult you should learn to ride in the street. Always with the flow of traffic. You can get a ticket if you ride against the traffic. Sidewalks are for people walking, not grown men on a bike ! At night you also need a headlight that can be seen approx 300 feet away, and a red reflector on the back. Pedals are also supposed to have reflectors.

It not legal but i would only worry about it in places with a lot of people and/or bicycle cops. My first ticket was for riding my bike on the sidewalk.

You are supposed to ride on the road with the cars. I don't think it's legal in any state to ride on the sidewalks!

I wouldn't advise riding bike on sidewalk. Could be dangerous with cars pulling out, people storming out a door, not to mention cars can't see you going into an intersection. I guess it depends on the neighborhood.

it relatively is unlawful to journey a motorbike on the sidewalk everywhere in u . s . of america, i think of. If site visitors's undesirable adequate, or if the line is narrow, i in my opinion could. it fairly relies upon on how undesirable site visitors is and the place the pedestrians are. site visitors would not pay attention for motorcycles a lot, and in specific circumstances they get irate once you're doing the criminal element and that they could make the difficulty to flow around, yet overlook approximately them.

It's not legal but I'd venture to guess that you aren't likely to be hassled about it, especially if it is generally absent of pedestrians.

Its not legal. Bicycles are treated like motorized traffic and are expected to drive on the shoulder or in the roadway. It may not always be safe, but thems the rules.
