I've already tried Highway 80 about a month ago. It was pretty hilly and this time I'm towing a trailer as well. I'm looking for the least hilly or lowest elevation into California.....not at all worried about which way is the quickest. Highway 15? Highway 40? Some other smaller highway? I also don't even want to have to think about putting chains on my tires...I'd rather drive a little longer.

Well if you do not want to chain then I-15 is going to be the best option.

Anything north of that will require you to cross the Sierra and many of the smaller highways are closed for the winter right now.

Since you are towing a trailer I would suggest staying on an Interstate as the smaller highways can be pretty twisty and narrow.

Have a safe journey.

Highway 80 is the main thru way in the northern part of the state...It is the route most trucks with trailers use to go cross country on. And is not that hilly in my opinion. I have been on way worse.

However you might try Highway 15 from Las Vegas...thru the Mojave desert area. But I would only recommend that if you are going to southern california. Otherwise you are about 800 miles out of the way from No. Cal.
