The Transamerica Building has a super bright beacon at its top that only seems to be lit during a short time in December. What dates are it lit, and for how long each night?

I'm debating moving into these. The apartments and apartment community are beautiful. I was very impressed with the apartments themselves and the amenities available on campus. I'm only concerned about the surrounding area. How is the crime in this area of Richmond (close to San Pablo)? (I don't need to live like the kids in the movie Coach Carter) And the Tara Hills Elementary School? How is that?

In comparison, I'm moving from Gilroy, CA, which is dirty, smelly (garlic and onions), and has terrible elementary schools.

Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

I am being transfered for work to Petaluma, CA and need to know where the best place to live would be around there. I am only there for 6 months, and I do not mind commuting up to 30 mins or so. I also do not mind small towns, but would like to live near some sort of night life, but it does not have to be extravegant. Rent price is not that important, as my company will be reimbursing me for it. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

My girlfriend and I are actually planning to leave Europe (Belgium) to experience the World.
We've been thinking of many interesting places all around the planet but SF is coming on and on every single time we start talking about it.
I've been to NYC, Chicago and Washington DC.
I love SF but I've never been there.
Maybe I'm idealizing the city but I think I could feel myself both comfortable and at home there.

So, if you live in SF: please give me some information.
And if you don't live there but have lived in the Bay Area, go ahead.

I'm waiting for any details from anyone who knows SF... !
Thanx !!!

My wife and I are thinking of going to Napa in February for a weekend away from the kids. Is February still a nice time to go to Napa, or should we go some where else?

What are some fun, cool, or unique things or places in the Bay Area for 18-20 year olds?

I'm interested in just about everything such as nightlife, shopping, amusement type attractions, restauants, hiking, sports of any kind, and sightseeing/views.

I've lived in San Francisco for about half a year now, so I know all about the obvious areas. I'm looking for specific things/places that would be fun. Ex: specific nightclubs that allow 18+, specific sailing company, specific hiking trail in Muir Woods etc.

Thanks in advance!!!

We plan to relocate to the San Francisco Bay area and I've seen some nice houses in Walnut Creek, but my husband wants a short (half hour to 40 minutes if possible), smooth commute. What is this one like? Advice?

Does anyone have experience moving from Chicago to San fran? I am considering moving. I love going to SF on travel, but not sure if I will enjoy living there. I love Chicago, except for the weather. Is there anything you miss or like about both?
