I would like to spend December 25 doing community service in New York. Please give me some advice as to what type of work I could do (like soup kitchens) and with which organizations? This is not for a long term commitment, only that one day. Thanks bunches!

I'm trying to get to the movie theater that's on 850 broadway, and i live in downtown manhattan, by chambers. I hate the subway, so i want to take a bus (no transfers) to Union Square Station that's pretty close to the theater. Is the M1 okay?

You descend into a filthy, disgusting subway. A pool of vomit is to your left; a dying bum with a shopping cart is to your right. A rat runs by. New York City is like no other place on this planet in the sense that it transforms humans into melodramatic, frustrated and lonely beings. Just as the city is ruthless, demanding and often treacherous, so are the people that spend at least a few years here

Should I rent a car or take the metro? Do either of these travel from the airports. I just picture travel being a nightmare in NY.

According to your experience.
I do know of some, and I do know there are listings in the newspapers coming up, but I would like to know what you have found in the past to be Christmassy and beautiful.

Especially the services of music.

Thank you

I like to feel somewhere different. The architecture of the East is older than the ones of the West (U.S.A.). I like city parks, rivers, walking on bridges, hills (you see the picture), big buildings with special architecture, using a ferry, the metro ...

Is there others sections of N.Y. C. where I could feel different of what is on Manhattan and obviously less attracting the tourists?

Well I am writing another good story, so I need some information from people that live in New York. What is the poorest part of Manhattan, I know upper east is rich but what is the poorest part? I am talking about rundown bars, nearly condemned apartment buildings, kinda unsafe, and slums. I am writing this into my story so I need some information. So far I have parts where one character lives in the rich part of Manhattan. So I need more info please.

My girl and I are taking a trip to NYC on 12/20/07-12/23/07, I was hoping to catch one of the central park horse carriage rides. Are they good and how much would I have to pay? Also do I need to call and like reserve a carriage or would I be able to get one.

My friends and will be visiting Times Square for New Years in a few weeks. We are planning on being downtown by noon and getting to Times Square around 5 pm. My question is where would be the best place to park? We were thinking about possibly parking north of town and taking a subway. Are there any suggestions about where parking would be affordable for most of the day until well after midnight? Having never been to NYC before, are subway prices realistically affordable for cheap college kids like myself?

Also, on New Years would every stop near Times Square be open before and after the festivities are over?

Thanks in advance!

I am used to walk and enjoy walking in the big cities by nights. I walked without serious fear in many of them. Where can I feel safe to walk in N.Y. C. at 3 a.m. in February?
