I heard during school vacation, NYU turns some of their dorms into a hostel type place. Give them a call.

I highly doubt you'll find a cheap hotel around that time in New York.

Get on travelocity and start your search just entering the "NYC" code. Once the search comes up, you'll see a pulldown option where you can change the search to "New York City Greater Area". Sort the results by price and you'll see a bunch of places for 150-200 per night on New Years Eve. Just plan on taking public transportation into manhatten.

Good luck with that - highly doubt you'll find anything you'd want to stay in that is "not expensive" for New Years.

You can try the usual sites - Orbitz, Travelocity, Priceline, HotWire - but, it's probably late to get anything now.

TripAdvisor.com has reviews from past guests, along with destination guides and forums. If you do find something, that site will give you info as to whether it's any good.

Hope you find something!
