I have been to NY very few times and have no idea how the train system works. I am starting out at rutgers university NJ in new brunswick and i want to get to 111 Livingston St, Brooklyn NY 11201-5078. Can anyone please help me map out a train route i am completely Clueless? thanks a lot in advance.

I strongly disagree with everyone who told you to get off the train in Newark and take the PATH trains. Why? It's just an extra change!

I grew up near New Brunswick and I now live in Brooklyn. Trust me. Here is, by far, the best way to get there.

Take NJ Transit from New Brunswick station to Penn Station NYC! Get out, and take the IRT Subway - the Number 2 line - in the direction that says "Downtown and Brooklyn". Take it to the Borough Hall stop on the Number 2, get out of the station - you will be on Joralamon Street in front of the Municipal Building and across the street from the Borough Hall Building. Looking across the street at the Borough Hall building, turn RIGHT and walk TOWARDS Boerum Place (you'll pass Brooklyn Law School if you go the right way. Turn RIGHT on Boerum Place and walk one block to Livingston Street. 111 Livingston is on the corner of Livingston and Boerum.

Here is a link to a clickable map of that area. You can click on sections of it and see the actual names and street numbers of the places on the map.

If you click on the street corner of Court Street and Livingston Street, you'll see where you get out of the subway. After that, you can click around the map to see where you are going.

Good luck on your MCATS!

My friend, you have asked the "Master of Public Transport" and shall help you.

First of all 111 Livingston Street, Brooklyn, NY is at the corner of Livingston Street and Beorum Place in Downtown Brooklyn. Here's how to get there from New Brunswick, NJ

Step 1: Take NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line train, bound for New York, to Newark Penn Station.

Step 2: At Newark Penn Station, connect to a Manhattan-bound PATH Train. Take the train bound for the World Trade Center (Red Line on PATH Rail Map).

Step 3: At the WTC, connect to the NYC subway. Take a Brooklyn-bound "2" or "3" train (Red Line on MTA Subway Map) to Borough Hall. At WTC, follow sign that says "NYC Subway: 2, 3, A, C, E, N, R, W Lines.

Step 4: When you get to Borough Hall, follow "Exit" sign to the street and walk one block south along Beorum Place. You'll see a tall, box-like building, that 111 Livingston Street.

The same persesure can be done in reverse on you way back to New Brunswick. Just follow the instructions I give you, but in reverse.

Prices (for you information before hand):
NJT's NEC to Newark Penn Station: $7.25 one-way peak/$12.25 off peak round trip (buy ticket before boarding).

PATH Rail to World Trade Center: $3 round trip ($1.50 each way)

NYC Subway: $4 round trip ($2 each way). My advice, since you're in town for 1 day, buy a 1 day pass for $7.

Travel time about 1 hour and 5 minutes each way.

I hope this was very helpful and good luck on the MCAT.

Either the NJ Transit or the NJ Transit-PATH routes described above will work. Switching to PATH saves you about $7 each way, but it also takes time.

You can always get subway directions within NYC at www.hopstop.com . You can use 33rd Street at 7th Avenue (Penn Station -- or 33rd Street at 6th Avenue, the last stop on the PATH train) as your "starting point."

If you are traveling on a weekend, make sure to consult www.mta.info's "Service Advisory" section before you go, to make sure there are no construction detours on the line you need.

There is no direct service from NJ to Brooklyn. First, take NJ Transit to Manhattan, if possible. If not, then take NJ Transit to Hoboken, Journal Square, or Newark, and change there for PATH to Manhattan. Once in Manhattan, go to any subway station, buy a two-ride Metrocard from a human in a (misnamed) "token booth" (not from a machine or from a human on the platform) and ask the clerk which subway train to take and where to get off.
