My wife and I plan on moving to Hawaii in a year or two. I plan on spending a year to get residency and going to graduate school at UH. I have some savings (around 15 grand) and don't plan on getting a car. Is it possible to get approved for an apartment before I have a job? Because it's hard to get a job before having an apartment. How far is the UH campus in Honolulu from Waikiki? Is it bikeable? busable? Anything I can do to prepare ahead of time? I'm motivated but nervous to move someone so pricey. Any suggestions you can give me would be helpful. (No milk-price quotes, please!)

Colorado? Washington? Hawaii? Where should we go?
If we were to live on a Hawaiian island, which one is the best?
(Keeping in mind that we WON'T be tourists!)

look, we are allowed to voice our opinions. This is a free country. If some of us don't like Hawaii, THEN WE DON'T. Leave it as that & quit trying to say that Hawaii is an awesome place to live & it's gold or whatever the hell you think it is. That's your opinion. We are merely stating what our experiences of Hawaii is. So, if i say that i think the island of O'ahu SUCKS! & the fact that it's infested with drug using locals, then let it be. Don't try to say NO, that's not true, Hawaii has no drugs....blah-blah-blah. All i'm saying is DON'T HATE b/c we are allowed to voice our opinions. So, im going to say it again: O'AHU SUCKS!!!! nothing but a city with lots of traffic, major drug crime problem & some, i said SOME (not all)....SOME racist people.

I am from GA and I have recently moved to Hawaii with my husband. He is military and we travel alot. All I want to know is why on earth would anyone want to move to Hawaii and live there life here? You can't go anywhere except around in circles it dosn't have mountains to go riding through. Deer to see? NO. Rabbits? If you go to the pet store. Owls? I haven't seen a one. Snakes? NOPE. So what is the point and why would you want to torchur yourself. I can visit here every now and again but to live here you gotta be crazy.

I am going to Hawaii, and want to island hop. I see Hawaii, Aloha and Go each compete for island hopping business. Which is the "best" airline, defined by newest planes, best seating....

Things that either are or aren't touristy. Sites that are must-see. Stuff that you can't see anywhere else. Stuff like that.

My friend invited me to go to the Big Island with her and I have never been there. I have been to Oahu (the last time was when I was about 7, Im 18 now) and I know that, that is more of the place people think of when thinking Hawaii with lots to do. Anyways since I have to pay for my portion of the trip is it worth it?? I dont want to pay $500+ and be disappointed. Maybe I should save my money and go to Oahu sometime in the near future instead. What do you guys think? I live in California by the way.

I am going to honolulu soon, for about 10 days. I know it is very touristy but my biggest interest is the nature. I have heard that the island of Kauai is great for this, but am I going to be able to get some great nature experiences when I go to Oahu? I plan on finding some hiking trails or tours, and try to experience the truest sense of Hawaii even though I am going to be the farthest from it!

I am going to be graduating college in May, and am planning on moving temporarily to Honolulu (3-12 months). I plan on renting a room month to month, I noticed that there were many being advertised from 450-750 a month. I have a few questions; should I consider anywhere else other than Honolulu? I chose this area because it has a lot of nightlife and happenings, and I would likely be able to find a job -- not looking to start a career, but just enough to pay rent and have a little spending money. I figure the bus and maybe a bicycle is all I will really need for transportation, wouldn't you say? Any additional advice on neighborhoods to avoid or to look more closely at? If I end up finding a great room on the other end of the island, can I still commute fairly easily to Honolulu by bus if I provide enough time?

Thanks for any and all help!
