On Oahu - MUST SEE - Hanauma Bay, is a small, but preserved bay that you can get to from downtown in about 30 min. (We took mopeds, but I don't reccomend that due to highway driving.) You can snorkel, swim, and see many, many tropical fish there. (Boats aren't allowed.) While I was there, just on the outer edge of the bay there was a mother humpback whale and calf playing and while snorkeling, I ended up swimming right beside a sea turtle!!!
Also try - Diamondhead. It's an extinct volcano that you can see for miles. It's quite a hike, but the view from the top is spectacular!!! (Check ahead, last I heard about a month ago, it was closed for trail repairs.)
In Waikiki/Oahu, try to find Duke's Barefoot Bar - a well-known bar and grill that yes, you can go barefoot to because it lays just on the beach. (The mixed tropical drinks are made from freshly cut and blended fruit and are awsome. Try the mahi-mahi burger or the cold-smoked salmon if you like fish.)
Have fun, I fell in love with it when I went and will be going back soon.
