The first thing I noticed, after leaving the airport and arriving at our hotel was the air. The only way I can describe it was soft. The hotel we stayed at (the first time) had gardens with lots of flowers and they scented the breezes. The ocean was cool, but not cold.

I love the way the rain falls, then goes away, leaving everything clear in it's wake. Although I'm not a fan of Waikiki, the hustle and bustle of the area was contagious.

Although I've heard of people who are not very friendly, I've never encountered that. I have always had very nice conversations with everyone I've met and everyone has been very helpful and nice.

The things I expected were there, beautiful beaches, lovely rain forests, and of course the more poor sections with old plantation houses on stilts (Eva Beach). Some sections of Honolulu seemed a little seedy, some looked to be under reconstruction.

I did see a drug problem, but no greater than where I live. I saw a gentleman with his dog on Waikiki Beach one evening. Evidently he goes there all the time - that was surprising to me, as I had thought the 'tourist' areas would be off limits to animals.

I loved Kauai - although it rained a lot, the rain forest there was wonderful. Loved Waimea Canyon and zip lining was fun.

My favorite area, though, is Kona - I love the Big Island.

Well, have I been there?

Oahu - Lots to see, yet a little too "busy". I love Waikiki because it reminds me of a big city with a tropical feel. North shore was awesome and much more quiet.

Big Island - Kona was so-so. Hated the yellow street lights. Hilo had a nice small town feel. Loved the farmer's market.

Maui - My favorite. Feels like I belong there. Lots to see and do. You can go very busy or very quiet. The best beaches I think.

Kauai - Really quiet. When the sun goes down, the roads are very dark and nightlife is hard to find. I like it that way, though. Roosters crow every morning before sunrise which is a novelty for a while anyway.

Haven't been to the others, but I will someday.

I went to Hawaii last summer with my school. The trip was probably the best experience of my life. We went to the Polenesian Cultural Center, Diamond Head, snorkeling in Haunama (sorry i cant spell) Bay, and a catamaran ride in Waikiki. I love it there and definitly want to go back the first chance i get.

Maui is under siege by greedy developers and investors who couldn't give a crap for local people. All they care about is their $$$. They don't care about the impact they are making on our infrastructure or on our community. One particular developer who has done some good for the Hawaiian community, has the nerve to disrepect all the locals and develop all of Makena, which is one of the last remaining open spaces on Maui. Auwe.

And to make matters worse, many of these boats used for the tourist trade are dumping their kukae (human waste) in our waters. Check out the Pump Don't Dump http://www.pumpdontdump.com/pumpers.html

And to learn about how the Superferry will impact the Kahului Harbor on Maui, as well as the rest of the island, please access and read: http://www.savekahuluiharbor.com/

Life on Maui isn't for the faint of heart. Most folks who move here turn around and leave b/c they don't have enough $$$, and they can't handle the intensity. SO, STOP EXPLOITING THE 'AINA!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT REMOVE sand, shells, coral, and of course, lava rock, and any other natural debris from an intact plant or live organism (i.e., seeds, leafs, etc.) from our islands. These islands are for our keiki and future generations. When you physically rob our islands of the natural resources, you are stealing from our children and future generations. RESPECT HAWAI'I AND THE KANAKA MAOLI AND THEIR DESCENDENTS.

I love Hawaii. When I was there I stayed at Waikiki. The shopping there is excellent its not too expensive U can easily find some really nice things, great deals & cheap souvenirs. Not only is Hawaii breath takingly beautiful & their history & culture is fascinating, the hula dance is shocking, U literally walk way blown away! (The islanders are very conceited about this & will blow U off On the other hand the bus drivers are extremely rude and can literally ruin your day. U will probably want to rent a car anyways because the bus doesn't always stop at every scenic stop & believe me U will want to get out & see everything! Another thing I didn't enjoy was the weather. It is too hot (for me) to enjoy anything. (I went in September.) I really wasn't expecting it 2 B that hot. So don't pack a coat or sweater. For me at night it was way too hot & it seemed to be even hotter at night. I was looking forward to a cool night breeze, there is none! Next time I'm going in Feburary!

I love the laid back atmosphere in Hawai'i. I have been to Honolulu three times and love it there. My favourite bar is Dukes Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach and the snorkeliing at Hanauma Bay was cool. Climbing Diamond Head was a bit tough in the heat though. Hoping to go back again soon

I grew up in Kailua. Went to Kailua elementary, intermediate and high school. I grew up down the street from Andy's drive-in that use to be on Oneawa streeet where Checker auto store is at now. They had the best teriyaki beef sandwiches. Where TCBY yogurt is there use to be a Ben Franklin store. Where the price buster is use to be "Fast Eddies night club". I loved growing up on the windward side. My siblings and I never had any trouble while growing up.

I went last summer with my dad to Oahu who grew up in the Manoa Valley. We went to Ko'Olina and just laid there basically, it's not so fun with no waves. Snorkling at Hanauma Bay was really fun. I loved shopping at Ala Moana Center. I love the Honolulu Cookie Companies cookies in Ward Center. My favorite beach that we went to was Yokohamas (however you spell it)
