Hawaii has lots of beautiful beaches... you like surfing or out door items. Yes, it is expensive to live here. Housing prices right now is unbelieveable and that is why they have high homeless people living on the beach.
Best to move here if you can buy a place, rental can be kind of high at times. Oahu is the captiol island where you can do a lots of shoppings, government businesses etc. Other islands offer their best too. It depends what you are looking for.
Below is the web-site for a good research on housing situation in Hawaii.
Just take note that there are people who move to Hawaii and stay there for the rest of their life. On the other hand, there are people who happily move to Hawaii and then left after a year or so. It is really what you are looking for in a place to live.

One thing you never mentioned are you retired? What do you like to do? Hawaii has pleasant weather, but I think I would find it boring. Besides it is so far from everywhere else.
Colorado has beautiful scenery and lovely winter (snow) sports.
New York would be a terrible place for me to live, but if you are really into night life, theater, and urban life, that would be a good place.
If you like golf and quiet country living, maybe you should look at Alabama. Low taxes and low cost of living is nice, but if you like urban life, then Alabama is probably not for you. The total population in the state is about 4 million, I think, and it is a large state.

If you can, AVOID New York and New Jersey, as they are overly crime ridden. In NJ, you will get shot going to the neighborhood store, where jobless, lazy skanks (male and female) hang out. NY is also over-priced and you MUST tip for everything you do there (that's legalized pan-handling).
If you want sun and fun, stick with Southern California (outside of L.A.), Nevada, Arizona, Texas, and middle-southern Florida. These areas should fit your sports lifestyle.
If you're also trying to raise children, then add Colorado and Utah to the list. Colorado has four distinct seasons with excellent areas for all sports. Utah, regardless of the Morman influence, is a nice environment to raise children than many other places in the U.S. Good schools, poor nightlife. Good Luck!

Go to Puerto Rico!
The nature of Puerto Rico's political relationship with the United States is the subject of ongoing debate in the island and also in the United Nations. Those who support maintaining the status quo (i.e., Commonwealth status) insist that upon attaining this status, Puerto Rico entered into a voluntary association with the U.S. "in the nature of a compact", but according to a President's Task Force report, Puerto Rico is an unincorporated organized territory of the United States, subject to the plenary powers of the United States Congress and with the "right to establish a constitution for the internal administration of government and on matters of purely local concern".

Like stated above, it really all depends what you like. Colorado has beautiful mountain ranges and breath taking views, however it may take some getting used to the elevation changes. If you love skiing and stuff you should definitely consider moving to Colorado. Good luck!

Well, I would say Ohio. Because it isn't a show offy state and has a lot of history to it if you dig deep enough. It is home to the greatest female shooter, Annie Oakley. This is the state where most of the indian battles happened. And there are a lot of nature reserves. It is truley a beutiful state. And if you like camping and hiking, you should go to Hocking Hills! It is sooo pretty!

I strongly recommend that you and your wife move to Georgia. People in Georgia are very successful and run their own businesses and are very friendly. Georgia also has cheap living rates too and Georgia is a state located down south where people are most friendly and courteous. I know about two or three people that moved to Georgia who have become very successful and say how they love it down there and the climate is fair.

i would never recommend Hawaii (of all places) seriously, your lifestyle fits CALIFORNIA or WASHINGTON maybe OREGON. Hawaii should just become a VACATION SPOT, although it's paradise, nice beaches & all. The lifestyle sucks, trust me on that! don't listen to any of these other people who will try & defend Hawaii, saying "Housing prices right now is unbelievable and that is why they have high homeless people living on the beach".
seriously, that is a bunch of CRAP. The truth is, they are living on the beach because they are homeless, lazy bums who fell apart in life because of drugs, crimes they commit & past mistakes. Hawaii has got a BIG problem with drugs (Crystal Meth to be exact). If someone out there from Hawaii is reading this & is offended, there's no apologies because i am entitled to voice my opinion in any way i want to. Anyway, were only here temporarily & we can't wait to leave.
