Unfortunately less than $150.00 doesn't go to far these days. Think about what you get in your own city, then you look at Maui one of the more expensive of Hawaiian Islands. Anything less than $150.00 will not be a "great" hotel, I would say you would be lucky for it to be an "ok" hotel.
Good Luck to you, but I think you might have to up your budget a little or you most likely will be quite disappointed.

There are no great hotels in Maui for $150/night....but, you can find excellent condos in that range. We stayed in Kapalua for that right on the golf course, and we could walk to the beach. No crowds up there.

Under $150: Maui Beach Hotel in Kahului (URL below). They are nice and central, and they have FANTASTIC BUFFETS! (Prime Rib & King Crab on Friday nights!!!!!!!!!!) Or else consider a condo or vacation rental if you want to stay elsewhere.

For that price you're going to get a condo. Try Hotwire or Priceline. You can get a 3-star condo room and rental car for 3 days for $500. That's pretty good if you check into it. Just about everything is close to beaches.
