Waikiki has the most hotels (there's one in the Kahala area and one out North Shore side) but if you want to stay clos to the nightlife Waikiki is your best bet. There's a lot of bars and and I only know if one nightclub in the area - Zanzabar. Which is a pretty good club, I've been there a few times but the cover charge is $10. There are a lot of local people as well as tourists that go to this nightclub. I suggest you and your friends rent a car (or a van depending on how many of you are coming) and going outside of Waikiki to check out the nightlife beyond Waikiki. One of the main hangouts is the Ward complex which is about a 5-10 minute drive from Waikiki. They have a movie theater, shops, restaurants and couple bars/restaurants (D&B and Brew Moon). You can also check out Ala Moana Center at night too. It has a lot of restaurants, besided shops, plus the Mai Tai bar which after 5pm only people 21 and older can get in and sometimes they have live music but that place gets pretty packed so...Good luck

Honolulu is the city where Waikiki beach is located.
If you want the nightlife and so forth, Waikiki, although more expensive, is the place to stay. Everything is in walking distance. Although Waikiki is not my favorite place on Oahu, it does have what you are apparently looking for.

Home to the State Capitol, Honolulu may be the vibrant epicentre of Hawaii and an area worth visit, like you will see with hotelbye . In Honolulu you will find every thing from old landmarks and valued monuments to world-class shopping and a flourishing arts and tradition scene. Home to nearly all Oahu's citizenry, the sprawling town of Honolulu advances through the south-eastern shores of Oahu, from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point, encompassing world famous Waikiki. Pearl Harbor is one of Honolulu's greatest tourist attractions. Though it is home to the Navy's Pacific Fleet, visitors can have a tour to begin to see the USS Arizona Memorial, and the USS Missouri.

Waikiki is the place to stay for both day time and night time fun. In the day, its a very centralized location to the beach, zoo, shopping, restaurants. Have brunch at the Oceanarium. Its got a 3 story high aquarium with stingrays and all right next to your table. You'll feel like Nemo will swim up to you any moment.
The night life seems to never end. It heats up around 10pm when the over 60's crowd goes to sleep and the 20 & 30 somethings start partying till 4am in the morning. There will an unending stream of guys and gals along Kalakaua & Kuhio. To be safe walk in a group.
For a safer stroll, stay on Kalakaua. If you feel like in the mood for some adventure and fun, stroll Kuhio between Lewers and Liliuokalani. (Be warned of the danger of strangers and second hand smoke - be safe and party safe). Then head for the 24 hr Jack in the Box after 4am and grab some sleep at 5am. At 6 am the streets are filled with folks going to work again.

it all depends upon what you want to do. i'd stay at the Ala Moana Hotel... nice and central and adjacent to an amazing shopping mall. Plus it's in (relative) walking distance to Waikiki, and the buses and taxis will take you without having to worry about the DUI.
The all-new Ala Moana Hotel is the definitive Honolulu address for urban relaxation. A multi-million dollar transformation reveals a stunning hotel with a contemporary character and island-style appeal.
Deluxe guest rooms reflect the cool colors of paradise and warm hues of refined hospitality. Casually sophisticated and comfortably appointed for business or leisure, you'll find mountain and ocean views enhanced by the rhythms of the city, splendid sunsets, and the pleasure of your surroundings.
Five diverse restaurants, Honolulu's popular Rumours nightclub, a spacious new sundeck with poolside cocktail bar, and an impressive fitness center provide guests with desired amenities.

The good news is it's about in the center of the Honolulu beach area and the tourist beach area you will want to be in is not terribly large (say like in California) .no prob. walking..I am sure you will want to stay in "the Waikiki area" of Honolulu. That's where all the action is. Have fun..

Duke's might want to correctly be kinda touristy, loud, and busy in spite of the undeniable fact that this is kinda relaxing in spite of the undeniable fact that. pass upstairs to Chuck's (top next to Duke's upstairs.) this is the indispensable Waikiki-Diamond Head view. this is extremely basically previously and after sundown. Valentine's Day will be a pair days after an entire moon so the moonlight over the water and the silhouette of Diamond Head will artwork is magic for the evening. a minimum of this is worked with all the girls that i have taken up there! ---- Edit: Wow! i have had more effective powerful success with the nutrition and drink at Chuck's than heart has. might want to be the success of the draw. both that or maybe this is because i'm a semi-primary. Sorry to hearken to about that.
