What rights does a customer really have these days? Oh, I know we talk about them. But how much really exists?

I`ve been reading about staying at inns in London in the old days. Firstly, rooms were dirt cheap because landlords expected guests to patronise food and drink. These days rooms, food, and drink are priced up.

Secondly, when you left stuff in a room, the landlord accepted full responsibility for theft and/or loss. These days you leave stuff at your risk; and if you`re forced to book into one of the B&Bs which are the only affordable temp lodgings in London, you`re more than likely to find some of the stuff missing. But what could you have done to avoid it?

So for many of us, as travellers, hotels and guest houses have become more like prisons than places to revive and recharge.

In this day and age, the customer is ALWAYS wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and the girls are flying out to Edinburgh tomorrow morning for the weekend. We are not sure what top do. The only sightseeing we want to do is the castle, nothing more. Mainly would like to go for a nice lunch, some shopping and some bars/clubs to go to in the evenings! any suggestions?

I am always amazed by the number of people who literally, just after Christmas, are looking to book holiday's (I mostly see them in the Travel Agents when I'm out shopping). I don't spend a fortune at Christmas but it still takes quite a few months to recover (not taking into account the unexpected expenses I always seem to have). Are you one of those fortunates who can do this. Incidently I am not able to save as I only just make enough money to cover the monthly expenditure!!

I've been Y!answer browsing and noticed a few comments from people in england, so I have a few questions.

One person said they were english first then British - What is the difference? And how do you choose which to be?

Another question, someone made it sound like all english/british disliked the monarchy. Is this true? why or why not?

and ... what is it like to live in England? I was in London for two weeks and decided I want to live there, but NO way could I afford that again * I stayed at knightsbridge Park Mansions*

I want to know about England, everything basically. So anything you want to say about it be my guest.

I live in downtown pittsburgh with my girlfriend in a two bedroom low-incomed apartment. I do tech support for dish network. I lost my license due to speeding tickets and owe lots of money to get it back. I've been very musically inclined and passionate about music since 4th grade and would love nothing more than to compose professionally. But I'm not sure how to go about it or if I'd be able to go back to school for it (I already owe 11,000 to a graphic design school that I never finished.) My girlfriend loves to draw and write and of course is very good at it, she works at a restaraunt. I'm 24 she's 19 and neither of us finished highschool but are still very able minded. We want to eventually move to NYC and pursue stable careers in these fields. Where do we go from here. ( if you need more info can update just tell me)

My husband and I are planning a 2+ week trip to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. I have been before, but my husband has not. He is not a big Travel Guide reader (or anything else for that matter), so I thought I could get him excited and involved with planning the trip if I rented a few movies set in the areas we are visiting. (i.e. Braveheart for Scotland). Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I just received my working holiday visa for the UK. Its only good for two years and I wanted to know if I need a national insurance number over there to work or do I just show any potential employer my work holiday visa? I would think I would need a number in order for both the employer and me to pay taxes?
