My husband and I are thinking about making S. America our destination on our next big trip. I am interested in visiting Argentina, but Peru and Ecuador intrigue me as well. I know Peru has Machu Picchu and Ecuador has the Galapagos. I like ot do a lot of research early, so any advice will be appreciated!

I have a paper due where I am supposed to compare independence day celebrations between a spanish speaking country and the USA but I don't know anyone who has lived outside of the US so anyone who would be willing to tell me what it is like to celebrate independence day in the spanish speaking world would be great!

I'd love to go somewhere close to the beach. Unfortunately, I would only have about 10 days. Thanks!

Some friends of ours are going birdwatching in Ecuador in Sept. We have been before, but didnt worry about it. They are wondering if they should take the drugs with them or if they can buy them in Quito.

In my experience in Costa Rica it has been possible to stay in the country without resident status indefinitely by entering on a tourist visa and simply exiting the country for 3 days every 90 days, and then re-entering on a tourist visa.

I have been told by someone at the consulate in London that they may be tightening up the laws in August to prevent people doing this. Is this true? Could someone fill me in on more detail?

How was it? Any good/bad experiences?

I hear it's a pretty cheap vacation with lots of freedom in the countryside. But the government has a lot of warnings posted.

People say there are only three countries in North America. Canada,USA and Mexico. I beg to differ. Looking at any map of South America, I have come to the conclusion that South America begins at the border between Panama and Colombia. Or am I mistaken? Where does that leave central American countries such as Belize and Guatemala? Serious answers please. Thanks.

I'm 27, blonde, blue-eyed, and planning to explore Central America and the Caribbean next year. I'm wanting to go by myself, and plan to research the hell out of where I'm going and learn basic Spanish, but wondered if you had any thoughts or feedback about travelling as a single gal? I'm sticking to the relatively safe spots...starting in Costa Rica, then heading up to Cuba and then Belize. Any things I should definitely do (and not do) beyond the obvious common sense? Suggestions for timing? Thank you so much!
