You will be visiting the hottest city in the Island. For nightlife you can choose El Condado (very close to the most popular hotels) and Isla Verde (closest suburb to the International Airport) for dancing and entertainment all the hotels offer a myriad of atractions. Like gaming? The only casinos in the Island are available at the hotels.

Sightseeing: One of the oldest catholic cathedrals in the New World is in San Juan (San José Cathedral). The resting place of Juan Ponce de León Florida's Conquistador is in San Juan). When Steven Spielblerg filmed the movie Amistad, he used Old San Juan Streets and El Morro and San Jerónimo fortresses to depict Havana and the Lomboko Slave Fortress in Sierra Leone (closing scene releasing of the slaves and English ships firing at the walls). They are both open to the public and english presentations of the history of the Spaniards fortifications is available daily (Video). You can experience puertorrican cuisine in fine restaurants in the San Juan area or visit the surrounding municipalities like Cataño, Carolina, and Loíza to "feel" the island cooking. In Cataño you can visit the largest rum distillery in the world ("Bacardi").

You like white sandy beaches? Then take a trip East of San Juan to Luquillo and while at it you can also visit the only Rain Forest under the American flag in El Yunque. Ask the front desk manager at your hotel for details and directions.

Hope this will be the first of many visits to the Enchanted Island (Isla del Encanto)

besides San Juan, that is always the obligatory tourist destination, there are other places in the Island that are also nice to visit such as El Yunque Tropical rain forest, and the city of Ponce. Here you can visit Hacienda Buena Vista, a renovated 19th Century Coffee Plantation and Tibes Ceremonial Park; reconstructed Taino site.
If you have time you can also go to Vieques and Culebra, tiny islands that belong to Puerto Rico. GREAT beaches.
we may be a small island but there is a lot to see and do here, as you can read from the other persons like umbralatin, mara35 and yayi who have also responded your question.

I am puertorrican, San Juan is a main city in Puerto Rico, where the government is located. In the summer Puerto Rico is pretty hot because San Juan is located between cities, it's called Metropolitan Area, there are a bunch of cities like Bayamon, Catano,Guaynabo, Dorado(one of the best hotels in Puerto Rico) Carolina, Toa Alta , Toa Baja, Canovanas. There is a lot of traffic area and because of the location of the cities it could makes these areas pretty hot. in Humacao there is a nice area called Las Palmas, is in the beach,If you go to the West Area where is Isabela my town is a nice pretty town, Arecibo and Manati(the surfers love these areas) for the big waves in some seasons of the year and are pretties towns you will see the beach and are warm and cool areas, but if you go to areas where the towns are in mountains these are coolest areas. I hope you enjoy your trip to Puerto Rico. !!!!!!!!

yes i went last December, i thought it sucked the people were very rude and acted as if they could not speak English except for when they wanted our American dollar then they spoke quite well. the island was all right nothing special, i will not go again. i think there is better islands out there that are better looking and the people are a lot nicer. Jamaica is one of those places. the British virgin islands. also and St. Marrten. was very nice. but i would never go back there, for as much as the U.S has done for that island i thought the people would have been more friendly

The final time i grew to become into in Puerto Rico, August 2005, it grew to become into SO warm. It rained sooner or later for extra or less an hour, and it grew to become into nonetheless very heat. i've got on no account been to St. Croix. even with the incontrovertible fact that, we did pass to a pair different islands whilst there and it grew to become into fabulous warm. you may desire to be waiting to savour the coastline purely high quality. savour!

Puerto Rico is a beautiful spanish speaking country. People are very proud of their country and would be nice ( like they say "when in rome do as romans do" ) to learn some spanish words that will get you around easier like "Gracias"-Thank You, "Una cerveza por favor"- A beer, please, "Cuanto cuesta?"- How much it cost?, "Esta, por favor"- This one please, "Quiero un taxi, por favor"- I want a taxi please.

The hot spots for tourism are the historic district of San Juan, Fajardo's bioluminicent bay, Rain forest in Luquillo, Camuy caves, Central mountain chain, Snorkling in Culebra, Watersports like surfing in Rincon and Isla Verde, nightlife in metropolitan area of san juan, Museum in Ponce, Lighthouses in Cabo Rojo, etc...
