I have about an 8 hour layover on Christmas Eve in Amsterdam...I'd LOVE to get out of the airport and look around but I know NOTHING of that city. Is there anything - some special shop place or whatever that I could go to not TOO far from the airport? I guess I need Euros there, right? Anyone have any idea how many Euros I would need for a cab from and back to the airport and getting some food and a few souveniers?

Thanks! :)

We moved to a new place a few weeks ago. My partner moved in before I did as I was on vacation for a few months. He's met the neighbours (they came over to introduce themselves) but I have not. I feel like I should.

Is it okay for me to take over a tart I baked to say hello? Is that strange? I'm not looking for any kind of relationship (I know the Dutch are quite private and so am I!) but it might just show goodwill of some sort? Also ,they recently cleaned our very dirty hallway so it might be a thank you of some sort... Yet, I don't want to appear weird (especially since I'm already foreign!).

I don't really want to go in for coffee. Just "hi, i moved in next door. my name is X and i baked a pie today. thought you might like some, bye!" .

I need help very quickly! I am currently in the US Mountain Time Zone (13:00 currently). If someone is flying to me and arriving here at 20:51 Slovakian time, what time would that be for me? I've looked at a time zone map, but I'm unsure. Help!!!!!!!

I have always kept a low and objective speech concerning historical, political and international relations issues. But now I cannot hide or control my anger, as well as my justified problematism about these facts:

1. The Turkish press releases ironic articles about Greece not having accepted the Turkish aid for the recent forest fires.
Though, Greece accepted it when offered.

2. The Turkish press denounces Greece for turning an old mosque to a church in Rodos. A (Turkish) friend of mine, eminent member of the Turkish community of Rodos informs me that no such event took place, on the contrary the mosque in question and other Ottoman monuments are being restored with European Union funds.

3. The Turkish press publishes a foto of skulls and bones, placed 150 years ago in an old showcase at the ruined monastery of Nea Moni - Chios, with the comment that the mayor of Cesme asked the Mayor of Chios to remove the scipt "Victims of Turks".

Are all these a coincidence?

It is annoying that many questions get absurd to insulting answers, because people do not bother to check the spelling of their text. Some, even get insulting answers due to misunderstandings by the fact that the words are not correctly spelled or the punctuation is wrong or missing.

What is very surprising is that people of higher education are the most habitual un-orthographic persons.

I will be heading to Europe in the spring and am still not sure where I want to live. One place that sparked my interest was the Isle of Man.

What is the cost of living like there?
Would a canadian have a hard time find a job?
Is high speed internet avalible on the island?
Is it easy to come and go from the island if I choose to go exploring the rest of Europe?
Is it true that there are no speed limits along the TT section of the islands roads?

I guess that is all.

Are we attached to our history, dominated by events and acts so much that our mentality and way of thinking is affected by this fact?
Which is your opinion?

I know that certain European and American politicians are a big fan of our current "mild Islamic" government.

What they don't understand is, this government is likable for them only because they are operating under a secular system, which is protected by the public and this nation's army... MY army.

After the collapse of "mild Islam", first in Pakistan, then in Malaysia (they abondened lacism and accepted the Sharia law just recently), why do they keep praising how Islamic and how democratic AKP is?

When will they understand? Islam is a peaceful religion only when Muslims are ruled by a modern constitution, not a Sharia law?
